Interesting piece on ESPN on KU's success: How the Kansas Jayhawks Became College Baseball's Unlikeliest Powerhouse
quote:

Dallas Baptist marked his first foray into Division I, and there he caught the eye of Jay Johnson, who two weeks after taking over as head coach at LSU in June 2021 poached Fitzgerald from DBU as his recruiting coordinator. Fitzgerald's first group of commitments was headlined by Konnor Griffin, who today is starting shortstop for the Pittsburgh Pirates in what would have been his junior year in college. Between DBU and LSU, Fitzgerald's persuasiveness earned him a reputation as college baseball's Mariano Rivera-caliber closer.

And good for Tyson LeBlanc. And all the other kids like him!
quote:

He committed soon after his in-person visit, leaving behind Eunice, where, he said, "the baseball field is paradise and then the outskirts are crawfish fields, drive-through daiquiri shops and Walmart. We have a Tractor Supply. One Mexican restaurant that's the hotspot. If you've got 10 bucks in your bank account, that's where you're spending your 10 bucks." Lawrence felt like Valhalla comparatively.

Lawrence is a pretty cool town, but you'll still eat better in Eunice!

That Tractor supply was once a field with sheep in it that later became an empty field where I'd walk across the street from where I lived and throw baseballs in the air and hit them as far as I could, when I was a kid. Lived there from 91' to 2005. I'm glad I moved before they ruined my fun field.

Leblanc just seems like such a huge miss. You go up to High Point to get Brayden Simpson & this guy was sitting in your backyard. I’m sure LSU isn’t the only school kicking themselves.

Food way better in Eunice. Girls are way prettier in Eunice. And Eunice loves the LSU Tigers. Football better than basketball.

You would think LSUE would get a good look from any LSU baseball coach every year, but when was the last player LSU got from there? I bet LSU hasn't recruited E since the Smoke days. That's where Marshall Louque is, and they are always loaded with solid players.

You'd be very wrong.

ETA: Every player we took from LSUE came in under Mainieri, except for possibly one who was part of Mainieri's last class.

Raph Rhymes was from LSUE. But I guess even more of a reason to believe some of these guys are LSU quality.

They have a C there from Catholic BR, who id be surprised if LSU didn’t look hard at.

And was essentially sent there by LSU's staff, not unlike Marshall Louque, who may still be in LSU's plans.

And we are looking at Clapinski. We have been since he was in high school.

Although he had a short stint at DBU afterwards, I'm pretty sure we had a pitcher on the team this season that played at LSU-E previously. Don't forget about Hunter Feducia, Jack Merrifield and Raph Rhymes

I think Jordan Romero was an LSUE guy too. Coincidentally from Catholic too

We took two catchers from Catholic and LSUE in consecutive years. They were at LSU together. Nick Coomes was the other one.

Aidan Mouton is signed to go to KU from LSU-E after this year

He is slashing .431/.576/1.310 has just 29 SO to 52 BB; also stolen 37 bags this season (although always LSUE has inflated SB numbers, LeLBanc had 39 SB his last season there and has 10 at KU this year)

Plays 2B primarily but has played some OF and pitches some (not much)

Couldn't tell me a guy like this wouldnt be good competition for Ruckert and maybe the OF too next season

Would love to see Aidan end up here or even Lafayette. No reason for a kid from Rayne to end up in fricking Lawrence Kansas

What was the restaurant back in 2003-4ish?

DC’s? That was a hotspot as well if I remember correctly.

We had several players from LSUE during this time.

Clay Moffit and Hunter Feduccia are 2 more that I can think of.

A lot of relievers too. Zac Person. Another one whose name is escaping me that may have had a few sunday starts here and there.
