What? LSU was ranked #6 preseason, and this board was insanely hyped; people here called it irrationally hyped going into 2019.

Do I think people are more excited going into this year? Probably so, but not all of that is because they expect the team is going to win it all; it is more about the feeling we finally have the right coach.

Yeah, expectations were super high. We had some serious talent all over that roster coming back. Depth almost everywhere. I think running back was the biggest question mark and Clyde showed out.

I remember vividly telling some family members I think we'd be extremely good. However, no one could've predicted GOAT

You need to unwad your panties, ma'am. There were a few of us saying it.
No few people were saying he looks like what Mettenburger was supposed to become before he got lead feet. It was looking to becoem a really good QB...

No one predicted him becoming one of the best to do it.

I thought we'd be pretty good in 2019 -- better than 2018 -- but I don't think there's anyone (outside of the team itself, maybe) who thought 2019 would go the way it did.

This year I feel about the same as I did in 2019 - we're going to be good but who knows exactly how good. Can't wait to find out!!!

My OP from 9/3/18

quote:

This kid is the answer. I have no idea how people refused to acknowledge how big a deal this guy was going to be for our program.

He’s a coach’s son that was Mr Football from Ohio that has learned under Urban Meyer for over three years. You couldn’t build a more prototypical college QB if you tried, and he has the attitude of an absolute champion.

I said this is my other thread, but his addition to this program is the biggest paradigm shift since Nick Saban arrived in Baton Rouge.

I think E was wise to hold him back a bit last night against that D. But there will come a time when the leash is taken off, and we will all be witness when he is allowed to take over and carry this team to the promised land

That was after multiple similar posts throughout the offseason after he signed, many like this referring to the fact that he was an elite Ohio HS QB and trained under Meyer for three years:

8/27/18

quote:

Addition by subtraction?

And a QB trained by another staff. This one, at that:

For the record, I’m exponentially more excited about Lane to BR than I was about Burrow, because this is the entire future of the program, not just a year or two.

Kiffin is going to build the next dynasty in BR, not even a question.

Which is why the excitement level should be at an all time high. This isnt about a new season, it’s a new era, and it’s going to be the best in LSU history

Things felt different after we beat the shite out of Georgia in 2018. We saw glimpses of big boy football (both talent and heart) we hadn’t seen in ages. Felt like we had escaped the Top 20 purgatory we’d been in and were back at the big kid table

I think we're going to score a lot of points, and I don't think a lot of people are used to LSU scoring 40, 50, 60 points a game
Joe sure saw it coming. There may not have been hype enough to take those numbers seriously after over a decade of Miles offenses, but we knew it was going to be a good group

19’ was one of those years i went into not knowing what to expect. I had no feel for the team. I was more than pleasantly surprised.
