Who has been the biggest surprise players for you 5 games in ?

I’ll choose one for offense and defense.
On offense : it’s been Dillon jones. I heard buzz he was gonna play over Berry so I figured he would be solid but he’s been even better than that he’s legit been an elite sec back. He’s not a burner but he’s physical , great breaking tackles , and reading the holes.
On defense: two players come to mind instead of 1 : Duce Geralds and Jhase Thomas. In terms of Duce Geralds we knew he was a blue chipper 4 star recruit who would make an impact especially based on the camp buzz he was getting but I don’t think anyone expected him to be this dominant so fast. He’s isn’t just playing good for a true freshmen, he’s legitimately been one of the most dominant DT’s in the country. I don’t think it’s a hot take to say he may alredy be the best pass rushing DT in CFB who also isn’t a slouch agaisnt the run. It’s been a while since we had a truly dominate DT so it feels good to see Duce resetting the standard we’ve been missing in the interior. He truly does remind me of Aaron Donald he is special.
In Terms of Jhase, was always high on him since he was a HS recruit as he was the no.1 safety in LA in the class of 25. I knew eventually he would be a good player for us but didn’t expect him to already look like a veteran deep centerfielder as a 19 year redshirt Freshmen. When he’s on the field you rarely hear his name for a reason. He rarely blows coverages, he tackles well in space, has great speed and overall is an excellent rangy cover safety. His emergence has allowed for the defense to not skip a beat with the loss of spears due to being able to simply move Benefield to star because Jhase is such a natural at that deep safety spot.

In the staff’s defense there were plays in the passing game to be had Sam was simply not good reading the field and throwing accurately that first half vs ole Miss.

Could be a 1 score game at half, but I think even then that the vibes will be that we are the far superior team. The next 3 weeks shape up for double digit wins to be honest. Couldn’t have said it better myself. It’s early but so far in the lane Kiffin era we’ve throttled teams were suppose to beat. Like you said we gotta take the show on the road but I think the ole miss game was a good experience for this group. They may not play in a more toxic hostile environment for the rest of the season than they did that night.

Watching a little of them I really think we should handle these guys.
Their o line is solid but gets overwhelmed vs superior athletes. Alabama manhandled their o line and our d line is just as good. We should have the clear edge in the trenches.
Their qb is solid when the pocket is clean but a dear in headlights vs pressure
Their receivers are ok but our corners absolutely should be able to clamp down on them in man coverage.
Their TE is prob their most dynamic guy on offense. Willie Rodriguez is a good player. Wouldn’t mind matching up Benefield on him.
Defensively we should move up and down the field on them. Their d line is solid but nothing special, their run defense is extremely shaky and their secondary is a clear clear weakness you can absolutely attack them.
With the way Sam has been throwing lately plus lane/weiss scheming we should score 30 plus comfortably. It’ll be a hostil environment and they may gave us a fight for a half but by the end of the game I see this being a 38-17 type W For the good guys.

He will end up a tiger I don’t get the panic in the comments Jesus. Kiffin came to lsu so he can land recruits like Royal. We’re gonna go all in to keep that kid in state

We average over 40 ppg are are currently a top 20 offense in the country passing or running the rock. Lane Kiffin offenses are built to play in shootouts. QB’s in year 1 usually grow throughout the year in lane’s system. Sam has been accurate since the ole Miss game. His hammy injury has actually done wonders for his accuracy as it’s forced him to hang in the pocket and scan the field instead of bailing early.
Plus this defense is nasty when allowed to be aggressive. Russell is talented but he isn’t gonna come into Death Valley at night and embarrass this defense. He will make his plays but so will we it’s good on good

Esp since their will be many times agaisnt better sec competition that your gonna have to make throws in muddy pockets not being able to step up in it. Sam has the arm strength to drive the ball without a clean pocket that will be valuable when we play teams like bama and Texas
Theirs no team I look at in the sec and say “ there are an awful matchup for us “. If we play our best we can play with anyone.
When allowed to be aggressive dogs I trust this defense can hold its own against any offense. Offensively we are getting better and better plus I got ultimate faith that Weiss and lane will eventually have that unit humming. Let’s handle business in October to set up Tiger stadium being a madhouse for bama and Texas .

It truly was his only bad rep from his game had a strong day in pass pro otherwise. He’s a talented tackle his bad plays tho are simply frustrating if he can become more consistent you have a damn good SEC tackle

Only bad rep he had that game. He was excellent in pass protection outside of that. Had an 83 pass blocking grade from PFF

Perfect comparison. I remember how hated he was by the fanbase then he went on to have a strong last year after receiving better Coaching. Blake baker brought the best out of him as LB coach. Same thing is happening with Weston Davis. He received horrific coaching from Brad Davis he’s actually being developed this year and has improved significantly

Simmons is a monster but Weston Davis has had a strong year. His pass blocking has actually been extremely good the PFF grades match the eye test. Remember he was a former 5 star he’s not a pushover. Feel like some folks are still holding last year against him he’s improved significantly

Sure terrible awful loss but it’s week 1 and they had virtually an entire new roster and coaching staff.
They also outgained Tulsa that game. Bad turnovers and failure to convert 4th downs were the reason for that loss. They’ve been a different team since then teams are allowed to improve from week 1 week 1 isn’t indicative of who you will be for a full season
