re: Eric Reid is up early trying to burn bridges with the LSU football program

I take that as an indication that Eric Reid is a cheapskate. The man is a millionaire and he's done nothing to improve his working conditions above what he had as a college player.
A millionaire surrounded by other millionaires, and they've collectively done nothing to improve the conditions over what a university provides.

The man is right. It's kinda bull shite that they can build that, but not give the players any type of money for cost of living.
If we, universities, quit providing trainers, equipment, and coaches, how many poor athletes would be going to the NFL.
The system is a pathway for folks like Reid to become millionaires. If the cost of the ticket drives folks out of the stands how will it sustain itself? It also gave Reid a soapbox to expose his true character. He was a hero after he saved the Alabama game.
Maybe he is bitter because he couldn't sustain his hero status.

He’s not wrong.
The NCAA power brokers make billions on the efforts of relatively free labor.
Sure, they get free tuition and a good life for four years. But I think they should have a choice to bargain for a minor-league payday if that’s what’s best for them and their families.
This thriving black market for prospects is ridiculous.

I could live without college football. Could the players and the NFL system survive with out college foot ball?

Sweet. What is Eric’s plan for compensation?
Posted on 7/22/19 at 7:14 am to bsmi154
I still haven't seen a single good proposal on how the NCAA should handle schools paying players a share of the profits. The #1 problem is, and nobody seems to want to address it, is the vast differences in the profits being brought in by 1 school to the next. This isnt the NFL with a salary cap and level playing field, it's already a vastly different playing field 1 school to the next.
Wouldn't the only "fair" way to offer compensation to players is base it on the lowest common denominator school's profits? Otherwise you would just exacerbate the competitive disadvantage smaller/less profitable/lesser known programs are able to even pay the players. We all know that wouldn't be "Enough". These players complaining about it want NFL style contracts, not $5000/yr anyways. IF 1 school can offer a kid $25k/yr and the other $5k/yr, why would any kid choose the $5k/yr school over the other given the choice of both?

"made" isn't really the right word, especially since most of these big projects are via donations

do people think that was a direct shot at LSU or something?

Because he is pointing out a very clear issue with collegiate athletics?

I mean Eric Reid did leverage his time here into being a major contributor in the NFL. So clearly it’s not a total scam...
Posted on 7/22/19 at 7:29 am to bsmi154
That's not what's happening, and you're unintelligent if you think so.

I didn’t realize that football players paid their own way. I was under the impression they received full scholarships? What’s the value of one of those anyway?
If any of you football players would like to forfeit your full scholarship to a high major 4 year university, email me. I’ve got a 12 year old already dreaming of being a Tiger. I’d appreciate the financial help.

bullshite. EA sports even said they would be happy to pay players for their likeness for NCAA games but the NCAA shot it down. There are ways these guys could get paid that wouldn’t even be noticed by the colleges they attend.
It’s just another example of corporate greed getting away with screwing over workers in America.

They already get a cash stipend now. $3920/year to help pay for books and any other expenses that the scholarship doesn't pay for. I can't help it that they want money for tatoos and weed & such. They're gonna have to do like the rest of us poor college students and get a student loan or start selling plasma or something. That cash stipend is already more than any other student on campus gets. Cry me a river.

That’s not a shot at LSU. It’s at the NCAA. Change title to burn bridges with ncaa
