Seems like having Perkins spy Travis would be a great way to neutralize his (Perkins) effect on the game.

I can’t agree. Perkins has nah his biggest impact, and it’s been a huge impact, in that role and by rushing the passer.

I realize that they are changing things up, but I’d bet that he is in that role on many 3rd downs.

On 3rd qnd long you green dog perkins in a spy role. Just let him play with natural instincts

This is how I see it but I think it will be more than 3rd and long.

It doesn't matter, because whether it's "spying" or "blue" or "green" or "red" or "mauve" dogging the nit-noiders/anoraks will be in here Monday telling you that you were incorrect, because "ackshualllllllly"..........

I'm telling you that if you don't walk out Sunday night with the memory of at least 3 huge plays where HP corralled a running/scrambling Jordan Travis just as he was about to pull a rabbit out of his arse and stick a dagger in us it was probably a loss.

The spy is only useful when you have secure defensive coverage and an incredibly mobile quarterback. For all we know, our secondary is/could be the worst group on the team. So, you attack the quarterback, disguise coverages, and feast on sacks/turnovers.

They will bring 4 a lot but in an attacking mode from different positions with the intent of just moving Travis off his spot.

Perkins will go after him as soon as that happens.

Downvoted to hell, but this is an excellent post, and I believe you are right.

Travis needs as much pressure on him as possible. Our CBs aren't good enough to cover with Perkins wasting pass rush time.

I agree when you are talking about a traditional spy but Perkins attacks when he spies. The idea is flush the QB with the DL and then Perkins attacks like a heat seeking missile.

That’s not “attacking while spying” that is spying.

Not true. We had average CBs last year and we spied the hell out of Bryce Young who scrambles to pass just like Jordan Travis.

Every other version of spying I have ever seen is a LBer just mirroring the QB and not coming forward unless the QB tries to actually run.

He will do that mush rush spy thing on a lot of plays. Keep Travis in check until you know you have a kill shot.

Travis is a thrower with some wheels as opposed to a runner. Blitz his arse with Perk.

He will do a lot of things. He's not going to be a one-trick-pony this year. That said, I don't expect a lot of spying vs fsu.

Perkins and the LBs better show up to play run defense. Achane rushed for 215 for aTm and LSU got pushed around. FSU is going to come out with that game plan.

Seems like a waste. The nations best player shadowing a QB. I think I would give that job to a safety or backup CB

I think we should put him at RB since John Emery isn’t playing now. We don’t really need him on defense. LB room is deep

I hope he spies on him from inside his jersey.

I'm more curious how he holds up against their run game honestly.
