You are probably right. But I dont want to see him running around back there on 3rd and 11.

Perkins fixes that issue. Best tackler I seen since joe montana

Perkins and the LBs better show up to play run defense. Achane rushed for 215 for aTm and LSU got pushed around. FSU is going to come out with that game plan.

If they do it will be a losing game plan. aTm pushed LSU around last year due to the lack of depth on our D-line and the number of snaps our starters had to play all season. The defense was gassed at end of the season. They should be fresh and ready to go for game 1. Don't see us getting pushed of the LOS.

I’m taking a shot every time I hear or read the word spy this season.

If we are going to spy, I prefer to spy with Sage Ryan at the Spy-Nickel position.

I would imagine they use him as a spy on obvious passing downs so Travis can’t scramble to pick up the 1st on 3rd down. Probably a mix of both rushing and spying more than dropping back in coverage.

Would be a waste for Perkins to spy Travis.

I think I'd prefer him to rush and not spy? But I'm just a fan

Yeah put more pressure on their offensive line and possibly create some negative plays and turnovers

If by spy you mean “Hunt” then yes.

agree when you are talking about a traditional spy but Perkins attacks when he spies. The idea is flush the QB with the DL and then Perkins attacks like a heat seeking missile. If we are worried about their WRs vs our DBs, we need to move their QB off his mark and then have Perkins make his life miserable.

Right. I think you will for sure see some of that.

A good DC will mix it up. Just another set in his arsenal

Agreed. Predators don't spy; they hunt. Let Travis know that Perk is coming early and often; then you can back off situationally. Let Perk "introduce" himself to Travis early, so Travis is always thinking about him.

Every other version of spying I have ever seen is a LBer just mirroring the QB and not coming forward unless the QB tries to actually run.

You will never see a version like you describe. The way it is taught is that the defender maintains a certain distance behind the line, usually advancing about 5 yards in the first two seconds after the ball is snapped. Then he explodes to the QB, taking the quickest angle that will not give up the edge.

Perkins explosion is better than any I’ve seen, but he’s doing it the textbook way.
