we still had a chance to kick a game winning 39 yard FG

No sir. The clock would have hit 0:00 had the pass fallen incomplete. Fortunately it was catched-- by Demetrius Byrd-- and surely went onto the highlight reel for 2007 LSU football

Incomplete pass would stop the clock. There were still 2 seconds on the clock when he hit the ground with the ball. Another second ran off before the clock actually stopped at 0:01.

I went to the 9-6 game in Tuscaloosa my freshman year at LSU and we had seats in the middle of a bunch of Bama fans. There's one empty seat next to mine and right before kickoff, Demetrius shuffles down and sits in it. I said "D is that you? You looking small brother." We chopped it up and gave those Bama fans hell for the entire 60mins. Good times. Need to find the picture we took.

Hope he gets through whatever mental issues are plaguing him.

That's a shame and most likely mental issues! Heading to LSU and away from Miami Central High should have been a lilfe-long blessing.

I'm unfortunately not gonna be that guy. I just heard some tales from some guys on the team of him not making great choices and the program having to cover his tracks a bit.

Yeah well, LSU had to kickoff and Auburn got to run a play after the TD.

TBI as a result of a car accident. Ended his career in an instant and dramatically altered his life. Very sad.

Theres no 2007 National Championship without that catch

They still had at least 1 second left to try a FG.

But losing that game and no 2007 championship, Les Miles probably gets fired after the 2009 season.

I always liked the Alabama TD more.

Caught it in stride and was pulling away at the end.

Just before the draft, Demetrius blew out a tire on his Nissan and hit a pole. He was in a coma for a week. He was never the same after. Sad story.

I remember when I met him he had an old purple mustang. I think he had just transfered in. He was a nice enough guy.

Gonna guess CTE is in play...
CTE isn't as much of an issue for WRs. They get a lot less head contact over the years than linemen, RBs, and LBs.

I was at a bar in New Orleans, LA, when he caught that TD against Auburn. The place went nuts. Some guy took his wife's bra, put it on his head, and motor boated her in excitement!
