No, Dale won't get the same level of praise Skip got.
It's a pretty simple situation;

Skip basically ushered in modern college baseball. He built LSU into a dynasty during the time the sport became nationally relevant. Not just LSU, but the entire SEC, and most Southern schools. It might have been played, but nobody paid attention until that time, and Skip was the man.

That's bigger than Dale, who "just" made LSU relevant in an already established sport. Honestly, bigger than Saban, who "only" elevated first LSU, and then pushed Alabama to elite status, in a similar, already popular football.

The closest thing to Skip might be Pat Summit, who elevated Tennessee women's basketball when the sport became popular nationally. But for womens basketball, it might be Leon Barmore at La Tech before her, or dude at UConn afterwards; Skip didn't really have anyone like that who surpassed him.

Even the 90 team everyone gets on Dale about for having Shaq, CJ, Stanley at the same time and not reaching the Final Four, they were still a 5-seed and lost to Lethal Weapon 3 Ga Tech in a close bout and that team made the Final Four.

Purdue was better than Shaq then....just like pretty boy from Duke. The NBA, not so much. Ga tech was loaded too.

Relative success aside, to the core of the question.....Dale ruffled a lot more feathers. He also did a lot for a lot of people and for that he will get much praise upon his passing from a great many people.

Skip ruffled a few feathers but not nearly as many as Dale. But no one is going to speak ill of them upon their death at least publicly.

Dale made LSU basketball relevant and generally successful. Not a powerhouse by any means.

Yeah, you may be right, nastiness has reached a new high these days and the lines get more and more blurred. The ease with which so many post so many mean spirited things here does bother me sometimes.

In Press Maravich's defense, the 1969-70 team, which was Pete's senior year, did go 22-10 and 13-5 in conference which was 2nd. that year. They would have gone to the NCAA tournament but in those days they only took conference champions.
But yes, overall Press's teams were a big disappointment. For a coach renowned as being great at X's and O's , he had awful teams. Mainly due to a lack of recruiting. Whether this was due to a lack of effort or he just had a bad personality I don't know but it was really bad players except for Pete, Danny Hester, Apple Sanders and maybe a couple of guards.
