re: T Pear Gets Another!

It being tPear, I never had doubt, the dude resurrected LSU basketball and delivered McNeese State its greatest seasons ever overnight, anyone who doubted should just renounce their LSU fandom now, they suck and are disloyal LOSERS

You know what I’m talking about. Don’t play dumb. In case you don’t know, Alabama is the greatest Football Program of all time.

Ok... none of that made a lick of sense

Bama’s reputation is obviously known by you.

What are you talking about? Was that a point you were trying to make?

Bama got something for yall this season.

kinda weird that Bama people have to hype their team up nowadays, thought the team's reputation preceded them :moon:

Congrats bro, it's 2026, you're talking 2 whole seasons before that class signs and takes the field
Game of the Century 2006 The Game

Ohio State vs Michigan

Was played at a national championship level the whole way, to the point there were actual debates about rematching them for the national title game, it was as incredible as the 2006 Rose Bowl Texas vs USC

Then Florida came in and absolutely dispelled the myth of Troy Brown Ohio State

Gave LSU tough games last 2 years, glad we don't play them this year

But what they were in the 80s was phenomenal. They made 2 final fours, and were cheated (Bobby Knight) out of making a third. 1981 was loaded. 1986 went through rough times during the season due to illness, but definitely worthy of the final 4 they reached when they got healthy. The 1987 team was one for the ages.

All the teams they lost to in the tournament in their deep runs (79-81, 86-87) ended up the national champion

Even the 90 team everyone gets on Dale about for having Shaq, CJ, Stanley at the same time and not reaching the Final Four, they were still a 5-seed and lost to Lethal Weapon 3 Ga Tech in a close bout and that team made the Final Four.
quote:

Dale Brown...you think he gets all this praise that skip has been getting when he passes?

Skip Bertman was also a very influential and transformational athletic director next to being the greatest college baseball coach of all-time (Jay may be sneaking up though)

Dale made our basketball program viable and relevant and sold basketball in the state, his tourney runs from 78-81 and 83-93 were incredible, he's on Mount Rushmore for LSU athletics in my estimation

But probably won't receive praise to the extent Skip is getting, Skip being such an LSU institution ever since he left the dugout, he's iconic

Maybe they thought Kiffin was expendable in the playoff run - but the entire offensive staff couldn’t be jettisoned.

I definitely read all you're saying and conclude it's understandable in light of the circumstances the calendar and business brought on

This thinking on their part doesn't make any sense though since they invested so much for him to coach and assemble the team and offered him that extension to stay, so much so they didn't even conduct a coaching search when he remained noncommital as jobs came open and thus rushed Pete to the podium Coach O style

He's the architect of that offense and team, even though he became the LSU head coach before the playoff, so while I agree with what you're saying and the Breaking Bad analogy, to deem the architect and head of that entire staff and offense expendable for the playoff makes zero sense.

It just further illustrates that Ole Miss threw a hissy fit over it all but didn't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater for practical purposes so pushed Lane out, LSU and Lane let the staff keep coaching through their playoff run and paid their bonuses, then they go to LSU once the season ends.

The American Gangster's not fricking around

Joey Brackets will change his preseason bracketology pretty quick after as all the preseason projections
quote:

Get rid of the person most responsible for the shakeup

The shakeup was brought on by the business of college athletics

The LSU and Florida jobs came open, notwithstanding Penn State and Auburn also opening up - all during the regular season

Lane made himself a top commodity per his Ole Miss performance, Ole Miss brass deluded themselves that there's no way Lane would leave a playoff team for those schools so they dragged their feet on a possible coaching search instead of using that leverage to force Lane's hand to commit

When the smoke cleared, Lane left for LSU with his offensive staff and Ole Miss rushed Pete to the podium and probably cost themselves the title by barring Lane from the sidelines during that run

Exacerbating all this is the portal window and early signing period calendar
quote:

It’s 100% because of the drama that’s always surrounded Kiffin everywhere he’s been.

That's probably true and fair but it ignores or overlooks that fact that Lane has lived an unconventional life as a head coach

Raiders - probably got his first head job (and it was the pros to boot) way too early (he was 32) and it was at a franchise in the last stages of the Al Davis ownership era where he was blowing draft picks and changing coaches every few years, pure chaos for a 32 year old in his first head coaching job. Made sense it didn't work out.

Tennessee - parachutes to Tennessee after they unexpectedly fire Fulmer after the 2008 season, they do pretty well Year 1, set a solid foundation then Pete Carroll announces he's leaving USC for the Seahawks...

USC - this is where the first instances of hate are directed at Lane - him abruptly leaving Tennessee for the USC head job when they pursued and offered him after Pete abruptly leaves for the NFL. In a vacuum, people would accept this hate as totally justified, I know Tennessee fans do, but it ignores the context of Lane Kiffin. He's from Cali, played at Fresno State, and cut his teeth at USC under Chow and Carroll, that's where he learned his coaching craft and honed his signature offensive scheme. Also remember, at that time, the USC head job was as high demand a head job as the LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, Texas jobs are today so we can't really blame him especially since USC wanted him. Things started out well then the team imploded in that all-important Year 3 for coaches. After starting 2013 3-2, he gets infamously fired on the tarmac.

Bama - goes to the Nick Saban Coaching Rehabilitation Clinic from 2014-16, modernizes Saban's offense, makes people like Blake Sims and Jake Coker prolific college passers, helps Jalen Hurts become a top freshman QB in the country, then the head coach offers return to him. LSU reportedly wanted him to be the OC for Orgeron (I think they wanted him to be LSU head coach before O, IDK) but Saban and Co blocked it and instead steered him to FAU. Whatever happened that prevented him from coaching the 2017 natty game happened but he was off to FAU.

FAU - we all know what happened here, 2 10-win seasons, prolific and elite offenses, gives CWJ his first true coordinator opportunity then the P5 head coach offers return to him

Ole Miss - he further refines and elevates his system at the next level, adapts better than anyone to the new NIL/portal landscape, also makes significant changes in his personal life in terms of yoga, giving up drinking, family, etc.

Then 2025 happens where 2 P4 top SEC power jobs come open and Lane being who he is obviously gets pursued...

quote:

He is what he is. He can pretend but most understand his only priority in life is himself. It will never be LSU. Best predictor of future is the past.,,,

That same classification gets applied to Saban, Meyer, Harbaugh, Carroll, etc

Saban was close to leaving Bama for Texas, that was an actual thing

and y'all say this about Coach Kiffin like it's some gotcha

The reason the aforementioned coaches get away with it reputation-wise is because they won titles

If Coach Kiffin wins a title at LSU, it should be forgiven or at least overlooked, people living in glass houses shouldn't throw stones
quote:

I think a coordinator leaving for a head coaching job is a lot easier for people to accept than a head coach leaving for another head coaching job, especially when he’s heading to a program that’s an annual opponent.

OK fair and it probably cost Ole Miss the 2025 national title by them barring him from coaching in the playoff when

he wanted to coach in the playoff AND

LSU would accommodate him doing so and paid all the offensive coaches their playoff bonuses

They (Ole Miss) let all the offensive coaches, who were technically LSU coaches then after the hire, coach the offense in the playoff but wouldn't let the head coach coach them

Make that make sense

They threw a hissy fit and probably cost themselves a title
quote:

Maybe that is because Golding seems like a normal, functioning, adult man.

LOL he famously got a DUI while coaching at your school, moreover he spent his Media Days time saying he wouldn't be petty to Lane then spent the next 15 minutes being petty to Lane publicly

Not Lane's fault Pete's defense gave up 6 straight TDs to Georgia last fall in Athens

Not Lane's fault Pete's defense gave up that TD to Kentucky to win that game back in 2024

Meanwhile, Kiffin seems like an infantile teenager, dates teenagers, seems creepy, talks like a metro-sexual, and also has the personality of a child deprived of attention.
