That’s just stupid.

But he stayed too long and left the program as low or lower than when he took over.
If Randy Livingston doesn’t blow out his knee in the summer between high school and college there would be no dropoff whatsoever from the early 90s to mid-90s.

There was no "momentum". The LSU teams Pete played on weren't very good. Press Maravich's final two teams (before Dale was hired) were a combined 24-28. Dale didn't have a winning season at LSU until his 5th year. From 67-77 LSU basketball was irrelevant except for the 3 year novelty of Pete.
Pete’s senior year we finished second in the SEC. At the time only the champ went to the big tourney. We went to the NIT instead which was still a big deal.
Pete packed arenas everywhere he played. All of our home games were sell outs. That led to the AC being built.
When Pete left things fell way off, but fans now wanted more. There was strong fan base now. Guys like Dr. Redfield Brian wanted more. Brown was able to harness that energy and support to build our program into a national powerhouse.

I must have missed this alternate universe.
I can’t help that.

That’s just stupid.
quote:And correct. He was the #1 player in the entire country coming out of High School. If he didn’t have the injuries, he and Henderson may have been unstoppable. Randy still went on to play 12 seasons in the NBA, which is remarkable all things considered.

I was there. Pete got things started. He got fans interested. Dale used that energy to build a powerhouse. That’s the way it went down.

Dale did some great things, particularly back in the late 70s and 80s, but he was an egomaniac.
And, of course, he was too involved recently with some awful input.
We appreciate what he did back in the day, but he's not really a likeable guy.

He will be honored and it will be very respectful, but NO he will not and should not get the same treatment as Skip.
Skip built a national powerhouse and won 5 championships

Not true. His first team went 14-10 and 9-9 SEC. That included an opening game shocker in the PMAC over #2 Memphis State. That team also beat ranked Alabama and Tennessee teams, the latter on the road.

I was there. Huge win for LSU. That really got fans fired up.

I was there too. Never was so enthusiastic about basketball as during that first season of Dale Brown. I think that was Eddie Palubinskas' only season as a Tiger, and it was a good one.

That upset of C.M. Newton's nationally ranked Tide team later in that season was one for the ages. The campus and the Assembly Center were covered in snow, and at the final buzzer Mike Darnall coolly unleashed about a 50-foot jumper for the win.
