re: Realistically How many years does Kim have left

quote:You have to be kidding on the stress thing. Would you like a job where you had to keep 11 or 12 women happy all the time so there would be good team chemistry? And all the missed layups, poor defense, careless turnovers and bad shot choice? Come on, you can tell Mulkey has aged because of it. Basketball is stressful no matter the gender because so much happens so fast that you have little control over.
yep and female basketball is WAAAY less stressful than any male sports.

I'm 78, so any comments I make about age is from experience and seeing my friends age. She should retire after 70. It gets tough after that age. Your get up and go, got up and left. My brain is still sharp but my body has a hard time of it. While a coach doesn't have to be an athlete they do have to be able to move around. In general, I think old people don't retire soon enough, especially in politics.
re: Why the Outpouring of Affection for Ed?
Posted by Tom Bronco on 6/24/26 at 12:54 pm to Jauquismos
It is such a myth that he put that championship team together. It was LUCK!! Nobody knew Joe Burrow was going to be that good. He wasn't the first year. It was the next summer when he worked with his receivers every day that he developed into the qb we know today. Likewise he inherited one of the best DC in the country and lucked into a guy from the Saints that nobody gave any credit to and was very young. Yeah, he made the final decisions but other people discovered them for them and it wasn't as though he had a lot of options.

quote:I'm getting old so my memory might be mistaken but what other job offer has he gotten that is above $100,000.00? He had sought head coaching jobs without the slightest success. No one wanted him. He was practically unemployable.
Taking a 100k salary just to be a part of what Lane is building should just drive that home even more.
re: Is MBB ever going to ensemble a team that is eligible?
Posted by Tom Bronco on 6/1/26 at 1:45 am to ChatGPT of LA
To think that McMahon's players left, and we are only talking about five players that had eligibility left, because of Wade is ridiculous. They left because they wanted to leave a place where they had only had failure to start over with a clean slate. Probably, they also wanted more money. And do you know if Wade even made an offer to any of them? Get real, you are really a negative idiot.

championship in every other sport. That would be unprecedented and give LSU more prestige than anything. How quickly did the rest of the country forget about 2019?

Don't you get that any money or property Coach O had at the end of his LSU tenure was also divided in half at the time of divorce? Have you ever heard about income tax that takes 37% right off the top, property tax, brokers fees, etc. Not to mention he was maintaining a house in Baton Rouge and a condo on Miami Beach and had to buy gifts for his girlfriends. You are correct that I don't have proof of his finances but the circumstantial evidence is pretty strong. The main thing is that the $100,000 LSU is going to pay him this time is post divorce income that his wife can't touch, so he will be assured living expenses outside of the settlement. Oh yeah, wouldn't you love to see his lawyer fees as he went through the divorce and then when she sued for half the buyout and it was appealed several times?

quote:His ex-wife sued him for her half of his buyout money and she was awarded 8.13 Million which he still hasn't paid her, probably because he already spent most of it. So yes he damn well needs money very badly.
He isn't getting anymore buyout money. That is why he has been making the rounds on radio and campuses begging for jobs. He needs money.
You're just talking out of your arse unless you have his bank statements.

Let's hope he works harder than he did those last two years at LSU. I will never forgive him for letting us go from a national champion to those horrible crap years.Credit for the championship should go to Brady and Aranda.
re: Will Wade signed Israeli professional point guard Yam Madar for $5 million
Posted by Tom Bronco on 5/18/26 at 4:55 pm to HoustonGumbeauxGuy
Someone, please anyone, tell me why we are signing such a second rate player? I researched him on the net and he apparently only played 8 games in 2024-25 and 5 games in 2025-26. He was drafted by the Celtics but that was 6 years ago. In his European career he never played more than 30 minutes a game and his stats were average at best. Is this the best we can do? And forget the 5 million. You would have to be brain dead to pay this guy such a sum.

Mac Mcclung has a year left but I don't think that would work even if he wanted to.

I do know that Shaq has said he will never fund any NIL money because he resents today's players and thinks they have it too easy.
re: Is there bad blood between Mulkey and Wade?
Posted by Tom Bronco on 3/29/26 at 11:18 pm to Mickey Goldmill
quote:Well one good reason is that apparently the rich donors didn't want to pay Mcmahon's buyout unless they could get Wade back. I enjoy women's basketball but the men's will always be first for me. All of LSU's sports are in full blown competition to get their share of the pie and Kim and her staff get a big piece compared to the revenue they bring in.
You realize the only way we offer these contracts is because donors agreed to pay for them, right? Why do you care if donors want to pay her salary?
re: Is there bad blood between Mulkey and Wade?
Posted by Tom Bronco on 3/28/26 at 2:28 pm to plance
Mulkey is a good coach obviously but her real strengths are recruiting and motivation. Recruiting is not nearly as important in the NIL era. So a good coach yes but not worth 3 million and yes in women's basketball you can get another good coach for much less. She loved Woodward so much because she was given one of his outrageous contracts.

re: I know it’s been brought up but Kim should be coaching the men’s team!
Posted by Tom Bronco on 3/25/26 at 1:48 pm to SaveFarris
Someone messed up on this. I was around in those days and Starkey never coached men's basketball here. Go to LSUsports.net and do roster for either of the two years Chris Jackson played or the three years that Shaq did. Look at the coaching staff. Dale Brown and three assistants, none of whom were Bob Starkey.

I agree. No island tournament for either men or women. Why should LSU pay for them to have a vacation during the season? Plus, the streaming coverage is always bad and fans have to pay extra money to see it. Also, Mulkey should stop playing cream puffs and play some real teams before SEC and if that affects her won/loss record negatively then so be it. Playing ranked teams should also increase the revenue flow.

When did Starkey coach men's basketball? LSUsports.net shows him as only an assistant coach on the women's team from 1989 to 2006. He apparently did not coach Chris Jackson, Shaq or Stanley Roberts.

Posted by Tom Bronco on 3/23/26 at 11:25 am to Geekboy
This is so absurd that it should be banned. Number one, Mulkey is about to retire in a couple of years or so. Number two, the men and women's game is so different that she would be at a disadvantage. And most importantly, macho men basketball players would not want to play for a woman coach. I am sure Mulkey herself would never want to take on such a huge challenge in the twilight of her career. She wants to stay home and play with the grandkids.
re: Out of the sports to lose money in 24-25. Baseball lost the least amount.

And you saddle yourself with a ton of long term debt which over time eats up any increase in short term profit. You would have to charge a huge amount of money for the new seats which probably doesn't happen because of politics.
