Where are the outraged voices from the WNBA saying that the veterans get no respect for what they have done? Only works for a certain parameter I suppose.

McMahon said that recruiting is done except for a couple of walk ons.
re: Which former Tigers do you dislike the most?

Number one for all time - James Carville. A nasty little nutria that somehow escaped the traps and hunters. No one can even come close and to add even more crap to his table, he always wears LSU gear which makes me cringe every time I see it.
Maybe a close second, Don Lemon who I didn't even know graduated from LSU until this year, so at least he keeps quiet about it.

I just looked at Livingston's stats. He is the number one player in Louisiana but 126 nationally. Yeah, let's recruit Louisiana and legacies. Go Tigers, that national title is just around the corner.
re: Ron Zipper commits to LSU

He has four years of eligibility. Only games in US college count toward eligibility. He will be 22 by the time he plays here which is a bonus because he will be both mature and have eligibility as though he was a freshman.

He looks to be a good shooter but not great. 38% from three but most of them judging from his highlights were wide open shots. He won't get those in SEC games. So I look for him to be a good depth piece that comes off the bench when we are looking for some offense but not the superstar to carry us in the tournament.
re: Are these basketball additions really gonna make a difference?
Posted by Tom Bronco on 5/1/25 at 4:53 pm
There is a difference between rooting for the Tigers and being dissatisfied when your hopes and dreams keep getting smashed. Every year of McMahon's time here, I have started the season optimistic and every year, no matter who the players are, we hit the SEC and crash. I will do it again this year, hoping that the new players will do better and win games. But if half way through the SEC season we only have one or two wins, well . . . that might be a bit of a downer. It is also very discouraging when the team mills around and looks as thought they don't know what to do. How many times have we had the same mistakes over and over again with no correction from the coaching staff? How many times does a player start to play good and then two plays later McMahon takes him out of the game? Why aren't timeouts called when the game starts to get away from us? On and on and on. I am optimistic and pulling for the Tigers every game until proven different but if the crash comes again, I, for one have had enough.

The thing Chest really lacked, as did most of the team, was in basketball iq.
Bad decisions, trying to do too much (driving and dribbling), losing his cool and disappearing in the big games against superior big men. Not sorry to see him go. We will actually get to see on this one since we will be playing his team.

I don't know what others said about Givens but I couldn't believe he was the best guard we could get seeing as how his stats were very bad. This was supposed to be because his teammates were so good that he didn't get to shoot but in the long run he was just a guy that didn't have SEC talent.
re: Will Wade: “arrogance got me in trouble” at LSU
Posted by Tom Bronco on 4/19/25 at 2:38 pm
What's really sad is that from now on, LSU will be a part of his career he is ashamed of and won't talk about, even though it was a place that really loved and supported him. It will always be one of the saddest parts of LSU basketball history.
re: Anybody excited to see Van Lith reunite with Angel girl?
Posted by Tom Bronco on 4/18/25 at 11:41 am
I'm sure Van Lith wasn't excited. The reason she didn't do well at LSU was because Mulkey made her dump the ball down to Reese at every opportunity. How many shots she gets to take will be a big deal and of course how many she makes.

Ok, I can agree to disagree and I still haven't called anyone on here an idiot, ignorant, etc.
What's really funny is everyone that thinks I am some kid who didn't know any of those names you posted. I'm 77 and when I was in high school, Bob Petit lived three blocks over and one of my friends mowed his grass. We just got off on the wrong foot and I should take blame for not being more clear about what I was saying. But I definitely know about Russell and the Celtics and Willis Reed and the Knicks, etc. They didn't even televise any NBA games in Baton Rouge in those days but I still remember laying on my bed listening to Petit and Cliff Hagan on the radio when they were with the St. Louis Hawks.

Madking the only person calling people names and ranting is you. Look in the mirror and find a little self awareness. And you missed my point completely, which is not how many players were born in Louisiana, especially since almost of them either left the state before high school or played before the year 2000, but the fact that the current players in high school are not getting the training they need to be great basketball players. There are exceptions of course, but for the most part this is true and needs to be addressed. If we had a private basketball academy school like a lot of states do then we would maybe have a chance.

quote:Yes you are right, which only supports my point that it isn't here. Everyone has missed my main point which is that Louisiana high school basketball is not on par with a lot of other places. And for those that say it is only a matter of population then how do you explain the incredible number of great football players that we produce?
Plus, basketball is MASSIVE in Memphis
re: Why doesn't Louisiana produce great basketball players or coaches?

Bill Russell left LA at an early age and spent his school years in California, including two national championships at San Francisco. None of his basketball prowess had anything to do with Louisiana. Do you guys seriously want us to recruit mainly from Louisiana and not try to snag great players from other states and countries?
re: Why doesn't Louisiana produce great basketball players or coaches?

And yet Maine with less population than Louisiana produced the number one player in College. All of you seem to have missed the GREAT part in my original post.
re: Why doesn't Louisiana produce great basketball players or coaches?

That's kind of my point although Tennessee and Georgia are not that far ahead of us in population.

quote:Both Hayes and Drexler played all of their high school ball in Texas.
You might have noticed UH had at least two key players from LA.
That's my point, not that we don't have raw talent but for whatever reason they don't get the training they need. Madking's list is all players from before the year 2000. How many Louisiana high school players made either high school or college All American since 2000?
