Skip was a little more impactful overall but Dale put LSU basketball on the map and consistently went to the NCAA tournament. He just wasn't the coach that Skip was but he'll be remembered as a coach that, like Skip, had to build the program from scratch with not a lot of support at first. But as they say, winning fixes everything. He was as good a motivator as skip.

No fricking way. Dale Brown is 1000 x more divisive than Skip. There's people out there that think Dale seriously has damaged aspects of LSU as a whole, and consider him a cheater. I'm not commenting on my opinion, as I am far too young to have an informed one, but I can tell you for sure that people feel that way about him. It's hard to find a single person with anything bad to say about Skip, except maybe that he was cheap in certain situations as AD

Skip is liked by everyone. Dale has tarnished his legacy a bit with some of the things he’s said over the past decade or so.

“Few people have had a greater impact on LSU than Skip Bertman," said LSU Vice President/Director of Athletics Verge Ausberry.

Pete put LSU front and center and Brown picked up that momentum and used it to build a powerhouse.

But he stayed too long and left the program as low or lower than when he took over.

There was no "momentum". The LSU teams Pete played on weren't very good. Press Maravich's final two teams (before Dale was hired) were a combined 24-28. Dale didn't have a winning season at LSU until his 5th year. From 67-77 LSU basketball was irrelevant except for the 3 year novelty of Pete.

Like Bertman, it was Brown who made LSU nationally relevant. But unlike Bertman, Brown didn't win any national championships. Worse, Brown's career ended in disgrace with bad seasons and LSU being put on probation. That's why he won't get the same unanimous outpouring as Bertman

—might want to wait til Dale passes on before you make that judgment. If Verge is still around, he’ll likely be just as kind to Dale.
So will Shaq.

This. Brown excelled in bringing talent to LSU, but always managed to squander it away.

Dale Brown took the basketball program from nothing to multiple Final 4's. He may not be perfect, but he's on Mount Rushmore with Skip and Saban at LSU. Those three had the biggest impact on LSU in my lifetime as far as coaches.

I went to Lsu in the 70s and I was there when he first came. He built our program through the years maybe not to the level of success of winning championships but he was one hell of a recruiter. Like Will Wade the NCAA was always harassing him but leaving the Blue blood programs like Kentucky ,North Carolina and Kansas alone when they were doing a lot worse than Dale did.

He deserves and will get a lot, but not quite to that extent.
