theres no debate, you want your defense to outplay the offense in camp ,while the offense shows big play ability and good red zone weapons.

we've seen what happens when the offense beats the defense constantly.
2023 and 2024 .

the most important situations or parts of the game for offense is big plays and redzone. they always translate to good offenses and high ppg

Im just ready to see an actual LSU defense again. I don't remember the last time I saw it.

The 2022 Bama and Arkansas games. Seriously. Our defense has sucked since then.

This is very wrong. Our defense was 59th in ppg allowed last season, 61st in ypg allowed. If they are dominating like this, then it has to be Top 15 in my opinion. That or the offense is going to be bad.

My prediction:
Offense: 25th
Defense: 10th

I watched the Coach Baker interview recently, and I thought I heard him say they were going to get Gilbert reps at Star.

This is the player group I'm most intrigued to see this season. Seems like a ton of improvement personnel-wise, and I want to see how long it takes DJ to grab him a spot.

Remember 2013, when the #21 defense was a season-ruining tragedy? How the mighty have fallen.

i agree, to a degree......mascona had a breakdown on the rankings from previous "poor" years and how they were far better than last years ranking and mentioned that 2013 year, along with other years we thought were putrid, and they were still far better than this defense........however, les' 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense required a great defense. we score points now, and offenses overall are way more dynamic. top 40'ish, top 30 should be a great compliment to this offense. now, i'm not saying top 10 would be shunned and we can't have both a great O and top 10-20 D, but lets get better this year with what we hope is a great O

LSU was around 60 in yardage allowed. They need more improvement than ten-twenty spots. What needs the most improvement is takeaways.

There's a reason I mention 2013. That offense was elite.

While I don’t disagree our depth has improved, there is likely considerable drop off between the starters (Delane and Stamps) and the others. Pickett will no doubt be great and has crazy measurable for a corner, but do we really know we can put him out there right now?

Honest question…..when did we go from having a DB coach to having separate CB and S coaches?

point taken. i think we can all agree getting under the 20's should be the standard moving forward, and with the offenses kelly has proven to produce, that should be far and away enough to get into the final 12 each year.

The defense was #61 last year. If the reports out of camp are close to being true they will be at least 30, probably higher.

Ashton Stamps is one of the X-Factors. He got thrown at a lot last year. He made some good plays but he also got beat a lot. I expect him to turn his head around and locate the ball more than he did last year with another year of growth and experience. He and Delane could be a sneaky good combo at CB.

Curious to see Picket and Woodland as well when we go 3-4 corners in obvious passing down situations. We could actually have a very good passing defense this year unlike the past 4 seasons.

Wow this take is horrendous. For one we don’t know if stamps will even start their still a very real chance Pickett starts day 1 he’s that type of talent and by all accounts has had a dominant week in camp this week that kid is the most physically gifted corner we’ve had since Derek Stingley a true blue chip 5 star for a reason. Two, are you forgetting pj woodland ? He has a promising freshmen year and by all accounts has had a great camp and looks like he took the next step. Also, ja’keem Jackson was a former high 4 star and started for Florida last year before he got hurt. He’s also had had a strong camp.

The staff feels good about 4
corners on this roster and almost everyone who’s been at practice has said theirs been little to no drop off from the first to 2nd team defense. Your overthinking this. This is by far the most talented cornerback room in the Brian Kelly era it’s not even fricking close.

_______

They seem to be matching him up with Hilton a good bit in practice. Seems like they are trying to get him ready for early pt.

I don't think the defense climbs that high...and I don't think the offense falls that low.

I think if LSU's defense is in the top 15-20, the offense will be good enough to win every game. Maybe somewhere in the 15-20 range itself
