The folks who sit near us in TS told us their friend, a LEO in the Hattiesburg area, told them to avoid going to that game. He said the cops were expecting a lot of trouble from Ole Miss fans.
I don't think the concern for the OP, if he really needs to be concerned, is direct confrontations but collateral involvement. I know quite a few Ole Miss fans, and they would not harass a man with his 12-year-old son unprovoked.

There will be much profanity and Ole Miss chicks getting in fights. The last time I was there, The KKK made an entrance. Save this one for when they are older. IMO (Dad of 3 here)

I’m only 20 personally, but if i did have a son i would take him to another game. OM fans will be out for blood and will probably be looking to start any fight with LSU fans that they can. On top of that joking or not OM fans have talked about on social media about bringing heavy objects to throw around or even a gun. They are quite literally unstable and unhinged

Man look, guns and knives are a bit overdramatic. However, there will be plenty of cheap shots, thrown drinks/food at you, tons of screaming/cussing frat boys in your face, a lot more than your typical away game banter/friendly trash talking. Enough to make this a very unfavorable experience win or lose. I've been to all but 4 SEC stadiums including the shithole that is War Memorial in Little Rock, the Auburn student section, Gainsville, and Oxford. If OP has been to away games too like he says, then he knows much about keeping your mouth shut and turning the other cheek at a rowdy crowd of cussing frats.
This one is different. If I were going, it would be with other grown arse men, someone I could count on in a fox hole and get some a-hole off of me if I get knocked to the ground. The cops will be looking for trouble makers, and LSU fans will get much of the blame. Leave the women and children behind for this one. If you do go, wearing neutral colors, tell your kid to not cuss back or flip anyone off, and keep your head on a swivel.
