Smart Thermostats

What's the OT's opinion on these? It's time for me to replace my thermostat and I've been looking at some of the options out there. Are these worth it? There's so many different ones. What do yall recommend? Nest, Ecobee, Honeywell, none of the above

We have a Nest. It does its job. No complaints.
I'm sure they are all relatively the same.

Have a Nest because we got it for free...it's fine. Not sure if I get the big deal with all of the smart home stuff.

We have a programmable one and it is more than sufficient for our needs. I just tweak it as necessary when the weather shift is drastic. We will look at the smart ones when it comes time to replace, but they do have a higher initial cost and I'm not sure we would see drastic cost savings over what we have now.

I have a nest, I dont know which moel, its about 6 months old. It was pretty expensive but I like it. I like being able to be in bed or wherever and just change the temp from my phone. It has an eco mode (which ive had a little trouble with but it might be my fault) that recognizes when youre home and when youre away so it adjust the tempature accordingly. Also I like walking by and seeing the weather on the screen

I have a Honeywell. It’s fine and it’s nice that I can set the temp from anywhere.
I think if I had to do it again though I would go Nest. If I remember right, it will know when everyone is gone and adjust the temp accordingly. My Honeywell doesn’t do that so sometimes I realize the wife has been gone all day but never turned the air up when she left.

Be careful with Nest and Google's new policies if you are into the Smarthome stuff. They seem to be closing some doors/connectivity.
I had a Nest and am now on an Ecobee for the last 2 week.s Honestly, I think they run neck and neck. Ecobee's programming and sensors are stronger, Nest's smart home/away updates are better.

I have a Honeywell recommended by CAD703X on the Tech board a few years back, he even provided link to an open box pricing at Amazon, where I was able to purchase it at 1/2 price. I love it - replaced a old analog thermostat that I keep as a spare just in case.
I never had a Nest, nor do I know anyone who has a Nest, and I know many here speak highly of them. I have however been spending some time reading posts on HVAC-Talk forum for residential owners, and for some reason the HVAC tech professionals that provide HVAC advice to homeowners with problems universally dislike Nest thermostats but they have no problem recommending other brands of smart thermostats. I suppose they must fix/replace a disproportionate number HVAC thermostat issues associated with the Nest product. So you might want to do a little homework on that.

We have the Honeywell touch screen deal. can set a 7-day schedule, with up to 4 settings per day. Rarely have to touch it.

I would recommend using proprietary communicating thermostats with communicating HVAC equipment.
The third party thermostats are just bleh and don't offer real comfort and control.

I have both Ecobee and Nest. If I had to do it over again I would have only Nest. I only got an Ecobee because 2 years ago Nest didn't offer in room sensors where Ecobee came standard with them. I have several Nest products and having them all in one place makes things much easier.

Same. We have 1 for our upstairs unit and 1 for our bedroom unit. I love them.

Definitely not needed and a luxury...that being said they are nice and convenient to have. Being able to control your AC from your watch across the country is semi-cool.

I have a Honeywell as well.
The location setting only works if you install the app on your phone and enable it. You will likely need to put the app on your wife’s phone and log her in.
You may not want to give up that control

I have 3 Emerson Sensi units. They work fine for me. Love being able to adjust thermostat upstairs while I'm downstairs. Also appreciate getting the humidity alarm if the kids forget to turn on the dehumidifier.

I have a nest as well, and enjoy it, although for reasons I think other thermostats also have. The schedule is nice and I love being able to turn on the AC while I’m in bed and on the way home from work.

Have an ecobee and love it! IN fact just set the A/C to away from my desk after my wife forgot to when she left the house.....again. Will then use my phone to turn it back on on my commute home so I don't walk into a sauna.
ETA: It's also awesome if you have an Alexa device to pair it with. Can be on the couch and getting warm with my phone on charge in the other room..."Hey Alexa...turn the A/C to 70" It's the ultimate in lazy luxury
