I have had both nice gas weed eater and electric ones and without a doubt for a normal size yard with a home, electric is the way to go. I bought a ryobi a while back just because when my gas weed eater died, I wanted to try it and not spend a lot of money in case it was horrible. I have been using that same ryobi weed eater for about 5 season. Bought a few spare batteries, it just works and runs. No oil, gas fuss, just simple.

I have an 10+ yr small Sthil that won’t die but I hate cranking it just to knock down a few weeds.
So I bought a Ryobi battery weedeater that runs on the 18v one+ batteries that I already have. For $60 (tool only) it works great. Quick to get out and just press button and go. I will still use gas one when I do all the yard.

that's how i am... i have an echo 225 or 255 and i have an echo edger. when i have a big job like going around my pond or something heavy, i'll use that. keep them in my shed.
but for by my house, the ego is great. i keep it in my garage hung up next to my ego blower and two wall mounted battery chargers. great for a quick weekly more frequent trim without having to go out back, fuel up, dela with if it won't start today, etc....

I have an ego battery powered one and love it. Probably should have gone with the combo edger/weedeater
I have the EGO weedeater and blower and I especially like the auto feed feature of the weedeater and the air speed of the blower.
ETA: After my forever old Honda self propelled just about killed my old arse one afternoon, I went out and bought the EGO self propelled battery mower, with free extra battery and $150 off. It is really nice having the same platform for battery operated tools and the ability to use the same battery in all devices.

I recently started using Milwaukee stuff and I love it. Their weedeater really torques similar to a gas one. Batteries last a long time. Been very happy with it.

I use a battery operated Ryobi weed eater, but will never understand why anyone would want a battery operated mower. Maybe for a tiny yard, but gas mower any day.

Quieter. Lighter. Don’t have to buy gas.
I’m a gas car guy, but I do like my battery-powered lawn mower.

I think my 80v kobalt might be on the way out, but it's been good. They replaced the battery about 4 years ago on warranty, but now it blinks red after a while. I'll pull out and back in and it'll go green, and it still works. I just figure that means it'll quit at some point.
I like it ok, but will look at ego when it dies.

Battery is great if you don't have a lot to weedeat. If you have a lot, shindaiwa t262 is the most comfortable, reliable and fastest weedeater I've ever used. They're basically the same as an echo but have a solid shaft.

I know it isn’t uncommon that the lithium ion batteries explode (at least in vape devices), is it safe to have all of this equipment with these batteries? Thank you.

90% of homeowners are absolutely fine with battery powered trimmers. I use mine a lot at my farm so the battery powered would not be best for me and my uses.
I have an Echo trimmer, Stihl trimmer and Echo brush cutter. They get used a lot and they have all been mostly flawless. I did have to replace the handle bar on my brush cutter last year after it broke.

I bought a cheap assed Ryobi 40 volt one with 2 batteries and a charger for $89 in 2020 and it works better than any gas operated one I ever owned. The batteries will do about 400 feet of fence (200 feet on both sides) the house, driveway, sidewalks and edge the curb and drive way. They will be fully charged again in about 20 minutes. I like it. Its far better than I thought itd be for $89. Looks like its $159 today.

I like mine. Had stihl gas trimmers for years and have yet to miss yanking the rope 7-8 times every time they had to be started.

If my current residential Stihl Kombi's go then I'm going right back to commercial-grade Kombi. I have an Echo battery weedeater too, it's ok but it doesn't have nearly the power of even my older Kombi and my KM-56RC positively blows it out of the water in terms of peak power.

I recommend Stihl brand. I have a. FS 91R and it’s really solid, starts in a couple pulls, and it still runs great after several years of whacking weeds. It uses .095 line which is substantial enough for most applications.

4-stroke Honda. Non-ethanol gas only (Trufuel, etc.).

I went through a couple of gas powered weed eaters, but they were smelly and had carburetor issues at times.
I went with a 40 Ryobi and it works well. Lasts as long as I do in the heat. Would go that route again.
