I had type 2 pre-diabetes and a BMI near 40. My PCP put me on 7.5 mg of Mounjaro 8 weeks ago, I've lost 20 lbs, no longer desire alcohol in any form, and doc says I'm typical. He told me he is frequently reducing metformin, HBP meds as well as NSAIDS for orthopedic pain.

Is this drug too good to be true, time will tell.

Yes, it’s an incredible drug. Hopefully it gets FDA approval soon so more insurances will cover it.

He started you at 7.5mg? He wasn’t frickin around!

I hope this is truly a miracle drug as some have touted. Like with anything else, I wonder if it's too good to be true?

We’ll have to wait 10 years and see what the daytime lawyer commercials say about it to find out.

Interesting. I've heard multiple first hand reports of weight loss and appetite suppression, but this is the first time I've heard about elimination of alcohol desire.

I would not be surprised one bit. Congrats to the OP with a 40 BMI I think it’s a chance worth taking. For the 20-30 lb overweight person I don’t think I’d take the easy way out. That’s just me personally.

I've heard people saying it made alcohol taste differently to them, and they drank less.

Knowing how the drug works and the biochem, can’t see it. The side effects pretty well known

As far as the comment about the 30lbs overweight not being worth it, agree. The known sides with the stomach pains are enough to where I wouldn’t if only had that to lose.

Now 50+ I would encourage people too.

It is a miracle drug but it has its down sides.

Just got prescribe this for type 2 and to help with weight loss. Does the weight loss come from just not eating? Day 2 for me and not real sure if I feel any difference in my appetite.

Yes, for instance we went out to dinner tonight, I ordered a grilled shrimp house salad. It came with a dozen shrimp, I ate half, now I have salad for lunch tomorrow. I pour a glass of wine and usually don't finish it. I had some nausea the first week, but now I feel great. My A1C is dropping, doc thinks I will be off metformin in 90 days.

BTW, dosage takes a little effort to get right, I started with the 5.0 for a month, then 7.5 for a month, and then 10.0, I didn't tolerate the 10.0 well, so he bumped me back down to 7.5, I'll stay here.

If you have no insurance or Medicare it can cost over $1,000 a month, I have good insurance and Medicare, so it's only $25 a month.

Why the rush to get off metformin? Everything I’ve read says it’s safe long term and it’s cheap.

You’re lucky. They spent all mine on tampon machines for the men’s bathrooms at Yellowstone National Park.

With insurance it was $65. They started me off on the 7.5 and I can’t honestly say if my appetite is any different. I honestly don’t have much hope being trulicity and ozempic didn’t help at all either.

would you rather your taxes pay for his triple bypass, dialysis 3x a week, frequent hospital stays, insulin, and the other 12 meds he’d need?

You know you don’t need to take pills to eat less right? You could just develop the mental discipline to eat less.
