last time i stepped foot in one was about 14 years ago. i didnt even eat or drink. was just meeting someone there.

I don't understand why someone would willingly go to an Appleby's in the year 2026 especially in a city where that isn't the only dining option

My wife was a waitress at one of the Savannah locations, in an area where the customers make their own lemonade and don't tip well.
She won't set foot in one. If it's the only restaurant in town, she'd rather forage for acorns.

I was traveling through Virginia in 2004, stopped in a small town, the was an Applebees in the motel parking lot. I got a good idea, I happened to know someone back home who was from a nearby town, I called him for eating suggestions. He said that Applebees was likely the best place within 50 miles.
The worst part wasn't the dismal food, it was that rural Virginia, tobacco country, was the last place in the US to outlaw smoking in restaurants. It smelled so bad we took the food back to our room to eat.
I'd rather eat at a drive thru than Applebees.

I haven’t been to one in 20 years, but I knew OP spelled it wrong because I once heard someone ask a woman where she worked. She said she worked “down at Apple Beeees”. Her exaggerated pronunciation made it stick.

I'm not sure I've ever eaten at Applebee's. I lived right in the city of Chicago for 20 years and now live right in the middle of Charleston. I woudn't even know where the closest one was in either city.

Used to go there all the time in 1996 when they opened one in Lawton, OK. It was the best restaurant in town!
