I have a friend that always says “I’ll just have __.” His wife makes fun of him for it.

I just point at the item I want on the menu and grunt a few times

I mean, I've said "I'll do THE _____." I wouldn't add the "your" though cuz its sounds ghey.

“ May I please have the….”

I waited tables for a long time and for some stupid reason, it would annoy the frick out of me when people would say “ i’ll take this” or “ I will have that”…. “ give me this.” …. “ Bring me that.”

Maybe I was just being a huge pussy at the time, but for some reason it rubbed me the wrong way so I’ll make it a point to politely ask for something when I’m ordering food at a restaurant, even fast food

Usually “I want” or “she’ll have” if I’m ordering for my wife.

"Can I get the..."

I've never thought about it before this though.

I’ve never thought about it until just now and I think that I usually say, “I’ll go with the…” or “I’ll have the…”

Had lunch at La Caretta today…

Told the girl, “I’ll do your chile rellenos”. They were fantastic

I hate when people say "Can I get...", like "can i get a cheeseburger". Sounds awful.

Back to "I'll do a ... steak/burger/spaghetti" I can't stand when people say "we did sweden last year" or "we did scotland last year". You DID Scotland??? Perhaps you visited Scotland, toured it, played goff there... you did not DO Scotland.

Easily could have been a dealbreaker. You two must be meant to be.

It just sounds polite to me. This is how I order.

Sensing more stringed instrumentals than guitar distortion in your music playlists! Kidding.

“Do your” does seem nonsensical. “I’ll have the…” is my go to. So is guitar distortion, FWIW.
