Highly overrated and the owner is a prick. Over/ under at 12 months to closure and them bailing on their employees.

There is no good bbq in the Br area. And I’m not sure there ever will be. I don’t think the market really supports it. I could see something like CM Smokehouse making it. Taking really good bbq and turning it into great and unique bar food. His Crunchwrap and crispito taco were great.

ruger35 - you don't think a TX style BBQ joint could make a go for it in BR? There's so much cross-pollination from oil & gas between LA-TX. It would seem to be a ripe market. John Lewis is making it work in Charleston.

That area/region already had a strong bbq culture, just not Texas style. That’s why he’s doing so well, no competition for his style. I remember people saying they couldn’t understand why Smokin Aces in Denham (if you can call it a bbq joint) closed at 8, that’s too early. I don’t think people around here appreciate or understand the craft like they do in other regions. BBQ is a backyard hangout is the viewpoint. You would have to educate your customer base on hours, how long it takes to prep/cook the food and hold. It’s one reason I’m keeping my operation small on the side. But, if someone had money and could absorb the losses while getting a customer base, you’d be the only game in town.

I get people want Gonzo’s to be open more, but most people don’t realize he’s there 5-6 days a week to be open what he is. I try to go at least once a month and help out anyway I can, whether it’s smash burgers or whatever. I also don’t think this market would support the pricing. Most people view bbq as a cheap cook. I do think YouTube is helping change that. I get Facebook/Instagram messages from friends now venturing out to beef ribs and such. On my trips to Goldee’s before the list, they were cooking maybe 30-40 briskets an entire weekend. Went by there a few weeks ago and planning to go back to work in May, but now it’s 150 a weekend simply because of the list. As good as they were before, even they weren’t killing it even in Texas.

Riveting

It sounds absurd on its face, but it actually sort of makes sense as a point wrt this place.

There was a guy a couple years back who did Texas BBQ pop-ups that were really good. I forget his name. He ended up moving to Denver, though.

Wish we could get legit Texas Q here, but just not sure BR would support it. Blue Oak does a good job and is making it in NO.

Shed is a big fat no.

If this is the same one that is in Biloxi I like it. I go to an event every year that they cater and the food is pretty good.

That’s a massive spot for a BBQ place. That location also dies down a whole lot during the winter as the volleyball leagues shrink down due to the weather. I don’t really seeing how they plan to make this successful but hope it works out for them.

Why is this getting downvoted so heavily?

Big time. I stopped once and was not impressed to say the least. Went back one other time hoping I hit them on a bad day my first time. It was worse the second time.

So where does one find better than average BBQ in the greater Baton Rouge area?

Your buddy with a smoker?

Or find an Oak & Smoke pop up.
