Hannah Q was my go to when I lived in BR. However, it seemed like it was always hit or miss in the consistency department, at least the mid-city location. For example, the brisket chili would either be thick in texture with lots of smoked brisket, or watery with very little brisket. They have a nice double steak burger and the brisket fries were very good.

I've been intrigued by the BBQ spaghetti on their menu, but too reluctant to pull the trigger in case it's more weird than good.

My office is near Smoking Aces. I eat there often and really like it.

Which of you guys think Brad Orrison is a prick? His biggest problem is that he is way way too nice to people, and gets taken advantage of too often.

Either you are confusing him with someone else like that prick that ran the shed attempted franchise in Mobile, you are a complete lying mfer, or a plant.

You don’t like the BBQ, that’s cool don’t eat there, baton rouge has always had tons of great places to eat and a vastly underrated food scene, (apparently you have to wait 2 hours in line to get into half the great places, but that’s another topic) but don’t attack the owner, and call him a prick etc who you have obviously never meet. It’s fricking libel, and it’s bullshite.

And yes I have known him for decades before anyone here knew about the shed, and I am a lawyer.

Anyone think I am full of shite, you can go to the shed rn in OS, or first month of so at this location and ask employees etc, is brad an a-hole, or better yet just go tell brad “i heard you are an a-hole” instead of hiding behind keyboard in your mothers basement.

He will laugh at you and make some kind of joke like well my gf says I am, or what did my sister tell you, then immediately become overly concerned he has accidentally done something to hurt someone’s feelings.

His problem is that he is too nice not that he is a prick, and he is not a public figure and this shite needs to stop

What the frick?

And I haven't said squat about the guy, before you think of adding me to your pleading -- but this.

You’re the only one who mentioned him by name. I’m sure that will come up in your libel lawsuit.

Yes, many people are saying screw him because of what he did in Mobile. So perhaps you should explain to everyone that it wasn’t him?

Brad did not have shite to do with location in Mobile after first few months of operation, it was an attempted franchise situation which I am sure is same deal here.

The owner, and I don’t remember his name was an incredible jerk, and the place was so terrible that if it had lasted past it’s franchise license it would not have been renewed at any price. My family, locals in Ocean Springs for 40 years or so, loved the shed and had it weekly pre Katrina. It was extremely popular with locals during that time period, and we were in the process of having a weekly shed night in my neighborhood where they would just do one big delivery for everyone. Again that guy was not Brad, and Brad had nothing to do with that place after first few months because the brilliant owner knew everything, and didn’t need any one telling him shite.

It was so bad it seemed intentional, and I am still not site it wasn’t some type of money laundering operation or something. I think the guy also approached Brad about doing this, which makes it more suspicious. Maybe someone who worked there can say.

Memphis BBQ guy here, I am sure Texas has some good places but haven’t found them yet. Blacks in austin is on my list to try.

Shed has good ribs, but BBQ on the Coast and Mobile area is about at Baton Rouge level. The brickpit was only decent place and it closed long ago. We have Moes now. Ribs are ok, brisket is great about 1/4 times ok the rest.

I’ve heard nothing but good things about the owner as well.

My concern is I’m guessing it’s gonna franchise to the Oasis guy(s) and they haven’t made anything work yet. And, I don’t believe the volleyball and barbecue will go well. Like I said in a previous post, I just don’t want to go eat at a volleyball court.

Again, I hope they do great though. If the barbecue is good (doesn’t have to be great), they can do well…if that location works.

Seems a lot of posters agree that a BBQ place in Baton Rouge doesn’t get a lot of support. Why is that? Feel like any city in the south you can find pretty good BBQ

Sonny’s does a good business for lunch and dinner. You’d be surprised, every time I pass, it has a decent crowd. It’s in a good part of town for what it is. Both Podnuh’s do a good lunch business as it’s more of a plate lunch type.

Both Jay’s do a good lunch business, but it’s mainly poboys and I don’t think a lot of barbecue.

What do all of these places have in common? They are established older places and have the same customers forever. They all seem to be in low rent buildings and locations and aren’t trying to be brand new.

All of these Texas places y’all are talking about are the same. They are established, they have the same customers, and they aren’t trying to be brand new.

So, what does it take for a NEW barbecue place in Texas to make it? Maybe that would be the model for Baton Rouge?

Y’all keep saying BR isn’t a BBQ town. Perhaps it’s not an “authentic barbecue town” but Good Lawd, how many barbecue restaurants do y’all think this city can hold?
