We have tried several brands we can get here in Alabama. Bought some out of state. It's hit or miss, a could brands give me an awful headache.
Completely different than an alcoholic buzz though.

Limiting to THC drastically by federel law, LA law is fairly loose. I hope this answers you question. :

In November 2025 Congress changed the federal definition of hemp (part of the bill that ended a government shutdown). It caps total THC at 0.4 mg per container and covers more cannabinoids than the 2018 Farm Bill’s 0.3% delta-9-by-weight standard.
Typical Louisiana-legal drinks (5 mg in a 12 oz can) far exceed that cap, so they would no longer qualify as hemp and would become federally illegal. The original effective date was November 12, 2026. A short-term funding bill signed in early September 2026 delayed most of the new restrictions to December 11, 2026. Synthetics that cannot be produced by the plant still face the earlier November date

10mg per fl oz. A 2 oz shot or maybe a little more is usually more than enough for me

Any specific brands to look for?
Crescent 9 Sour Watermelon is my go-to. I put them on the rocks and love the taste. I very rarely drink alcohol these days.

Any specific brands to look for? How do I know which ones are getting banned? I need to stock up. What is the shelf life? Beer deteriorates within a few months.
All of them will be banned unless something changes.
The one we've liked best recently is the Nola Cola. It tastes like a Coke so no hempy/dank flavors.

It’s a federal ban. Mitch McConnell pushed through.

For those who have had them, do they mellow you out?
In a word, yes.
I quit drinking alcohol almost a year ago. These have been a good thing for someone like me. No more feeling like shite the next day.
Louisiana's 5mg limit per can is ridiculous. It's the equivalent of only allowing sales of Mich Ultra strength alcoholic beverages.
If you want higher strength ones, they are available for order, which is what I do. My favorites are the 10mg Senorita margarita cans (Lime Jalapeno, Mango and Grapefruit Paloma are all really tasty).
If these went away, I wouldn't be thrilled, but I'll live.
I have a feeling that the Feds will figure it out.

It's trial and error. Some give me the indica effect of mellow as frick with the munchies. Others just a great numbness that makes you feel like you're on island time for a couple of hours. One thing is certain for myself on any brand......great sleep!!

Louie Louie out of NOLA is a good brand

It'll take 10 years of "figuring it out." Maybe if these companies let the politicians get a piece then it'll be legal.

CBD / CBN / CBG oil is a big factor for me that not many people talk about. Maybe it's just me?
Indica in general makes people sleepy. Sativa is more of just mellow.
But CBD and CBN oil also makes me very sleepy so if you have a 5mgTHC/5mgCBD can I will likely be real chill so better suited for night time. For me I either look for options with 0mgCBD or the least amount I can find, but more than that I prefer the ones mixed with CBG oil.
CBG is good for daytime as it's better for focus. It's marketed for energy, I wouldn't say it gives me energy but it definitely does not make me sleepy. CBG isn't as common as the others because it's more expensive to produce, so it does limit your options
CBD is marketed for stress , and is very good for sleep
CBN is marketed for sleep

Nothing to do with hemp-derived THC being a good product. Big Ag, Big Pharma, Big Medical Marijuana, Big Alcohol, etc. all have a vested interest in keeping these products off shelves. Their lobbyists caused this. No coincidence they're taking these products away while keeping it pathetically easy to get a medical marijuana prescription in Louisiana.

Is the Willie's Cocktail that I get ads for on IG all the time one of these type drinks?

It's very good. Prefer it over the gummies and zero hangovers like alcohol.
