He took Wake Forest from being a GARBAGE defense last year to 26th this year. Not a bad candidate. Plus, as already mentioned, there’s his preexisting relationship with Kiffin.

I’d imagine Peoples follows Baker to Tulane, but your point is very valid. A lot of DCs want to choose their own guys.

The man doesn’t want to be a defensive coordinator. Think about it. He could have gone anywhere as a defensive coordinator in 2022 after Wisconsin hired Fickell, but he didn’t. He went to Illinois of all places as an analyst.
Even now, he’s in a similar role for the Broncos (where he also played professionally). If Leonhard really wanted to be a defensive coordinator for just about any blue blood college football program, he’d have the job tomorrow.
It’s not something he wants. It’s something that he has consistently not wanted.
Edit: he’s currently assistant head coach for the Broncos, no way he comes here.
