Where’s the best place to get tasso in the Baton Rouge or Lafayette area? Dont have time to make it myself.

Rouses … I prefer the Cajun Family Tradition brand. They also sell Savioes, Richard’s, Best Stop, and Rouses private label brands

Rabideaux's.

Rouse's carries some Rabideaux's products. Not sure if lasso is one of them.

IMO, Savoie's isn't very good. Not familiar with the others.

Richard’s is the only brand my local grocery store carries. It does the job but I wish I had better options.

Slight hijack but Cajun Family Traditions is the best store bought boudin I’ve ever had. Not counting the various boudin shops of course

Rod's in Church Point
Rita's in Iota
Rhea's in Basile

If you don't care to venture much off I-10, Kartchner's and Best Stop are also good.

If youre in lafayette, get frank fontenot's.
Its actually smoked.
But, if you want legit to the bone tasso, go to any meat market in ville platte or surrounding areas like eunice, church point etc.

Do not get any "liquid smoked" tasso unless you love to eat shite.
If you like to eat shite then get some savoies.

I've used Bergeron's (Port Allen) tasso and it was good. That is if you're in BR.

If you're in the Lafayette area, tasso should be easy to find. And lots of it.

Guillory's Grocery in Pine Prairie. Very good tasso and andouille. It's off the beaten track but well worth the effort to get there.

I use their Green Onion Smoked Sausage, Andouille and Port Tasso all the time.

Iverstine Butcher on Perkins in BTR sells a number of cured pork products made in house. Tasso is frequently offered. All their products are on the milder smoke side which I prefer.

Great little meat market, but not the place I would go for Cajun meats. Ronnie's boudin and cracklin in baton rouge, a few good places across the river, and a ton around Acadiana.

I will say that prairie Cajuns do it better than Swamp Cajuns(and I am one)!

yeah but Ronnie’s tasso is not good. The Hammond location is at my exit so I’m in there all the time for boudin and cracklins but I tried the tasso, yuck

not sure what the issue is, it’s dry and flavorless

I cut up about 5 lbs. of pork butt a couple months ago and seasoned it up to sit overnight in the fridge before smoking it the next day. Excellent stuff and a hell of a lot cheaper than what it costs in the stores.

Same for Andouille. I grind up the pork, add my seasoning, case it up and smoke it for hours and it costs me no more than $2.50 a lb. to make as opposed to buying it from Bailey's at damn near $11 a lb.

Plus I find it very pleasing to make my own sausages and also make Boudin, Green Onion and Italian in addition to Andouile.
