Headed down for a quick turn and burn this weekend. Any recs? Will have a 9yr old so can’t do the bar scene. Dinner Friday, Saturday places for breakfast/brunch, lunch and an early dinner

Pollo Asados Los Nortenos. I ate here 4-5 times and it was outstanding. The place is full of Hispanics. Typically I’m one of the only non Hispanics there. Having said that, everyone has always been friendly to me. Pretty good size place. They do a ton of sit down and take out business. It’s probably about 15 minutes from downtown next to a Hispanic neighborhood. I typically order this marinated chicken that has a red tint to it. It’s marinated in Anchiote and some kind of citrus and other herbs and spices. It smoked and seared off over mesquite. You can watch them grill the chicken through a window. They pile the food up on a platter and it’s way more than myself or SO can eat. Rice and beans are very good and normally I don’t pay that much attention. This place is really, really good and I’ve only eaten chicken like this at one other location down on the border. I bet if you looked this place up on Yelp or Trip Advisor it probably has 1,000 5 star reviews. If you want to go full blown Texas take a ride to this place and you will not be disappointed.

Second Chris Madrids. Great burger and cool place.
De Wese’s Tip Top Cafe for plate lunches.
Broadway 50/50 for burgers and beer. Kids should be good there.
Alamo Cafe on 281. Close to a bowling alley so you can do that with the kids.

Went to La Fonda on Main (rec from this board) when I was there a couple of months ago. Short Uber from River Walk. Great food, atmosphere, and service. Very reasonably priced too. Get a resy.
