I really enjoy an OF, but this Manhattan I just made (on the rocks) is pretty damn good. Guess it’s the Vermouth. I tried an OF subbing Amaretto for the simple syrup. Good, but not as good as this.

Sorry, rambling while I’m cooking dinner.

Anyway, which would you order first?

Rye Old Fashioned, then bourbon Old Fashioned. I’ve yet to have a Manhattan that I’ve enjoyed…

It’s about using a quality vermouth that hasn’t gone rancid. Cheap vermouth, or one that’s been open for a while and not stored properly in the fridge, will ruin it.

OF all day and every night twice on Sundays.

A buddy of mine adds between a quarter and a half of an ounce of cointreau or triple sec to his that makes them fun, but other than that I like a nice, standard OF above damned near anything else.

Old Fashioned.

I've been using agave instead of simple syrup to make mine at the house.

Manhattan.

Vermouth goes bad faster than I can drink it, so making one at home ends up being a waste of money for me. I'll order it every chance I get where someone else is stocking the inventory.

Rum old fashioned > whiskey old fashioned

I prefer both to a manahattan, but it is close. Manhattans are great.
