Need the definitive list for Houston Mexican

Will be spending a week while my wife undergoes treatment at MD Anderson. I want the best recommendations for Tex-Mex. I know about Ninfas on Navagation. I know about El Tiempo on Washington. Been to both. Hook me up with something new. Thanks.

Rouge directed me to Tacos Doña Lena
It is pretty gringo spot and I know he was holding out on places I shouldn't show up all white at. I would support it though for bringing a kid and having a sit down.

Teotihuacan isn't as well known as the ones you mentioned, but it's pretty well liked by locals. My favorite flower tortillas, and favorite cheese enchiladas. Good grill too. 3 locations, though I'm not sure how far you want to range from the Med Center.
Molina's on Holcombe is closer. Been around forever. Nice spot.
There's also a Cyclone Anaya's in the Rice Village, if you're willing to brave the Village parking or take an Uber. Can't give a personal review, but it looks a little fancier.

Don’t sleep on the MD Anderson cafeteria either.

I've been to Los Tios and Guadalajara Hacienda recently and really enjoyed them both. El Tiempo and Lupe Tortilla are solid as well.

Candente is the answer for Tex Mex.
If you want actual Mexican food Maximo is in Rice Village right now the street from MD Anderson-chef here has a Beard award…it’s a little elevated but the tasting menu here is one of the best things in town, La Mexicana for breakfast in the Montrose, Tacos Frontera for TJ style tacos over at I10/610 by the movie theater, Little Rey in River Oaks for tacos/pollo asado.

Not Mexican, but I love Blood Brothers BBQ in Bellaire. Probably within 15 minutes of MD Anderson.
MD Anderson has a big cafeteria, there is a sandwich stand near the walk to the hotel, a sit down restaurant near the hotel, and a 24 hours coffee stand near the hospital part. At least thats what they used to have.

Sent two of my guys there today.
Hughie's across the street on 18th is also a good spot for some spicy Asian food and a good pint.

Candente is the clear best in town right now

For the experience stand in line at Laredo taqueria on Washington or go to the original Irma’s and let them serve you whatever they are cooking. I’m also a big fan of cuchara but it’s more authentic Mexican and not Tex mex.

There is nothing worth waiting in line for at Laredo.
Tio Trompo or if you’re dead set on steam table tacos on Washington Ave…go to El Tiempo Taqueria instead.

I haven’t read any other replies in this thread, but El Tiempo Cantina as you already mentioned. I also like Lupe Tortilla, but between these two, there is still a big difference in quality and taste, with El Tiempo Cantina being the GOAT for Tex-Mex for me.
When in Houston, ETC is a must for me. Every time.

El Tiempo is the goat. Don’t need anything else.
