Many fried seafood restaurants, based upon my observation, are this way, especially after 9 p.m.
Seemed like at one point that was THE place for North BR to go out for a 'nice' dinner.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that IMO
If you have a broiler than can get to 1600 degrees, definitely not.

copeland's.
Very true.
Add Outback to the list after 9 p.m. as well.
And The Chimes on Coursey, no matter what the time.

I actually prefer broiled steaks
There are very few places that have high quality wood grills that serve aged prime beef and execute it well. Wood grill might be the only thing that can compare to the broiled steaks. This is just my personal taste. I don't like any sort of smokey flavor to my steaks (well for the high end stuff anyway)

I thought you were insinuating that this somehow made it substandard

As far as "best seafood", I could give you 5 restaurants better than that fried-seafood dump, Mike Andersons.
Juban's
Mansur's
Parrain's
Tony's
Louisiana Lagniappe

You call yourself a food snob and then go on to say everything at the chimes is great.
It is bar food. Easy to eat food that is tasty after a 4-5 beers but average none the less. You said chimes was better than LL. You are beyond wrong as the two aren't even comparable. At least LL doesn't lie about what's on the menu.
I say it's over priced because the food is very average and the portions seem to be getting smaller.
And what exactly does the chimes deliver that no other restaurant in BR can? Good food? Do you eat at any other restaurants you food snob?
Sum of parts? Really? Food - average. Beer - great. Service - poor. Yeah best restaurant in BR by a mile

The best steaks I've ever had were on a wood-fired grill, as hot as they could get it.
Short of that, definitely broiled at high temperature.

You chastise him for singing the praises of The Chimes, but I've seen you champion Serrano's on this board which is one of the most overrated, overpriced, shitty places in Baton Rouge.
And you call yourself a food snob...

Juban's - never would be classified by 225 as seafood
Mansur's - same
Parrain's - cajun classification here
Tony's - wasn't even considered
Louisiana Lagniappe - easily the best

even if the portions are getting smaller, which i'd say they're not.
it's still cheap. you're ridiculous.

is that why the redfish en papillote is now tilapia? Oh that's right, they call it fish en papillote now.

Great Atmosphere.
Amazing location.
Great beer.
Good to Great value.
Good to great food including:
fried and blackened alligator
best gumbo in town
outstanding chicken club
good seafood platters- same as Parrain's.
great red beans and rice.
And besides that it just has an overall je ne sais quoi. A spirit. A presence. And it fills a niche that can't be filled elsewhere- even Sammy's which has some of the same things going for it feels more neighborhood and less- well college.
I don't know why you're making such a big deal about it. Louisiana Lagniappe is a good restaurant that serves good seafood avg decent steaks. I've eaten there dozens of times and know the owner pretty damn well. but i don't think it's a good value. at all. and the location sucks bad. Even the decor isn't right. It still looks like a zorba's on the outside.
And I don't even know if I think the Chimes is the best restaurant in BR (I might give that to the Bay Leaf or Sushi Yama). But I don't think it's ludicrous like you. It's everything that Walk On's dreams it could be.

Are you freaking serious?

the last three times I've been it has been.
they even changed it on the menu to "fish en papillote".
And then I ordered what was considered a prime ribeye a couple of times. Not prime. And there's some backstory with that I won't get into.
But seriously, though.
I love LL's. I'll go there anytime that someone else is paying..

Filet tournedos is easily one of the top 5 menu items, IMO, in town.

Best beer/food combination in town. The closest competition is the Bulldog... so if you really want bar food...
