You chastise him for singing the praises of The Chimes, but I've seen you champion Serrano's on this board which is one of the most overrated, overpriced, shitty places in Baton Rouge.
He's championing a chain mexican restaurant. Can we end this thread now?

The closest competition is the Bulldog... so if you really want bar food...
bar food = finger foods and burgers/ sandwiches.

It's sad the dining public in BR allows even its supposedly "fine" restaurants to be so damn lazy.
There's literally no excuse for a restaurant located anywhere in S. La. to not be able to procure good fresh gulf seafood on a daily basis. None whatsoever.

The Chimes isn't bar food. Anyone who says so is a moron.

agreed. That's my problem with LL. Still go there frequently. LL is trying to price itself and sell itself for more than what it is. It's not fine dining. But it's started to price itself like it is.
And that's actually my problem with the rest of the "fine dining" restaurants that toot their own horn around town. Most of them are overpriced and most of them aren't that good.
Juban's was too rich and too salty.
Mansur's was okay but way too expensive.
Ruth's is just steaks, and the restaurant is getting old and feels a little business class.
Fleming's is paying out the nose for atmosphere, and the asian inspired dishes suck.
So that's kind of my frick you to the BR scene. Maybe the chimes is the best in town. It doesn't make pretention or presumption.
It always tastes the same. It always taste good. And I always have a good meal and good time when I go there.
When we get a real fine dining place in town maybe I'll like it.

I've only been to the one in NOLA. and it wasn't to eat.
I'm not opposed to going, just haven't ventured out that way yet.

Hamburgers, cheese fries and nachos = bar food
I've only eaten at the one in N.O., but that's pretty much all they've got worth eating.
They do all of those well, but that doesn't make it not "bar food" by any stretch.

yeah, calling the chimes bar food is like calling LSU football "something to do on saturday night" around here ... if you want to see what "bar food" is .. go to places like the end zone, ivar's, fred's, etc. ..

and jeez, the second thing- calling it overpriced? What the frick?
I don't know many places serving non-ethnic fare that you can eat cheaper than the chimes.

the perkins location up here has a few more things on the menu .. i guess i am looking at the quality of the food too ... the menus at bars are a lot like an applebee's, calendar's, etc. to me ... the bulldog does what they cook really well and mainly based on taste i consider it above bar food ..
Posted on 7/6/09 at 11:40 am to LSU Fan 90812
even when i consume large quantities of beer, i have never had a complaint with the size of my tab relative to what i got at the chimes ..

maybe just call it really good bar food. absolutely no shame in that.

So it was GOOD bar food... but still in essence, it was bar food.

Best
* Pronunciation: \ˈbest * Function: adjective
1 : excelling all others
Merriam-Webster's definition of 'Best'. If a poll of merely 2500 people has the legitimacy to award a business this perceived highest honor in Baton Rouge, then I'm embarrassed for 225 magazine. If they really can say that all of these winners completely 'excell' above all of the rest with .56% of the population voting, they should be boycotted. Just don't advertise with 225, simply put. Send a message.

it's just a popularity contest chill.

oh, the burger blows george's out of the water by a long shot ... then again, i can think of about 10 places that does that ... the george's "best burger" and "best po-boy" awards were in the top five of most laughable ... shite, how the hamburger at tramonte's on jefferson slipped through the cracks amazes me too ..
