never bothered me.
and in a way, the fact that it's not a traditional gumbo is what makes it stand out to me over the dozens of seafood gumbo that fade into each other and don't rival the one i make in my own kitchen
ETA: sammy's has a good traditional seafood gumbo.

I championed serranos? That's news to me. I said the food was decent when I was a waiter there in college about 4 years ago. I went back a few months ago and thought it was average. But yeah, I guess that's me singing it's praises. Karma enjoy your top notch dining at Chimes. Just means less of a wait one at the truly good places in this city.

Best Gumbo I have had in BR has easily been Dempsey's and I find that their gumbo could be a bit thinner. Im just not a fan of Chimes's gumbo at all. I also cant say its bar food. I certainly dont think of Ribs and Pork Chop to be on a bars menu or even gumbo. I like Chimes food is ok and I like that the prices are reasonable. But I also wouldnt put it as the top restaurant in BR. If you put it in that category I would say it would be horribly overrated.

i just think if you take in all the factors, that it's not a terrible thing to say.
it's not saying the food's the best. overall.
the category unto itself is going to have a certain amount of inclusiveness and appeals to the common denominator. A fine dining restaurant won't ever win unless it's just that amazingly good.

It is sort of funny seeing him rail on Chimes, which I don't think you or anyone else is touting as any sort of truly great restaurant, while he's trying to tout La. Lagniappe as some sort of grand culinary pantheon.

Are you serious dude? Shaking pompoms? You just praised the Italian dressing at the chimes. The food was great at LL. I stand by my review 100%. I just know Know to never pay attention to your reviews since the chimes is your top place you have eaten at.

perhaps they should split that category like they did the best mexican/best burritos and tacos to satisfy the advertisers ... best bbq/ best ribs ..

I don't know where the decadence was for you. I do know you couldn't tell the difference between duck and chicken in a gumbo which shows you know dick about food. But I forgot you and your friends are food snobs. Maybe yall don't know how to order?

I'll agree with that. But Sonny's as far as anything relating to BBQ is trash.
At least TJ Rib's ribs are fairly good.....Sonny's ribs are like chewing on a friggin' human rib.
