Are they an acquired taste? I've been expanding my beer selections for a few years but still can't seem to like the bitterness.

I'd say they are, but I'd probably give up on them 3 years in.

Have you tried Ballast Point Sculpin or Sweetwater Triple Tail?

IPAs just aren't very good. At some point hipsters will realize that and that horrible trend will end. Fortunately there are plenty of other styles out there now.

Have you tried lots of them? The ones that are just bitter without the good smells and tastes that come from the hops are not good. There are good ones and bad ones, just like any style of beer.

I live in Baton Rouge, so I'm a little behind on the trends. Hopefully the hipsters have already coalesced around another style and it's only weeks away from hitting here.

They are, but you might just not like them. No big deal. Plenty of other styles. If you want something "trendy" that's good for hot weather, try gose. Terrapin Watermelon and Sierra Nevada Otre Vez are a couple of relatively easy to obtain examples that I've been enjoying lately

Yes, I almost gave up on them after Hopitoulas and it wasn't until I had some Pale Ales I enjoyed that I eventually gave them another try. Started with Session IPA's then to other stuff

This.

Hipsters aren't in the majority of drinking good IPAs.

Sat in a friends backyard last night and drank a keg of Jucifer and it was good.

American IPAs bear little resemblance to the mild British versions.

If there was a foreign beer style with a grain of sugar in it, Americans would fill half the bottle with sugar. We tend to overdo stuff.

IPAs were the shitty beers that were sent over to the colonies and were only so unbalanced because that's what it took to get them over there without spoiling. Nobody drank them between when refrigeration was invented and quite recently.

You're wrong. The American IPA is way different than a British IPA. Try a Samuel Smith IPA. It's not terribly hoppy. American ones are just heavily hopped up and terrible.

And to the OP. Yes, IPAs suck.

They have. It's called Gose and it's disgusting. Salty. Its as if some brewers got together and said, "these idiots will drink anything, let's frick with them."

Yes, that 400 year + fad will die out soon.
