Are they an acquired taste? I've been expanding my beer selections for a few years but still can't seem to like the bitterness.

Try an IPA with Citra hops. Those are a good gateway IPA.

me exactly. I've gotten to know my way around most beer, so if I recommendation it's because I'm pretty sure your really gonna enjoy it based on what I've seen you drinking before. Most people will at least try to expand their horizons, but I've had a few just hit me with NAH I don't like that fancy crap. Wish some people knew what they were missing out on.

I find the inverse to be true. I know far more people who find beer enthusiasts pretentious than I do beer enthusiasts who deride other people for not liking style x/y/z.

even though I have a pretty nice reserve of it... it's def a special moment beer.. I usually have one when the release it and about one every 3 months after that. I end up finishing the stockpile about a year-year and half after the release and it ages so beautifully.

I'm really anxious to see what the cinnamon one did over time.... still haven't had it since the release

The Abita version is possibly the worst beer I've ever had.

Abita's version of an IPA, Jockamo, was one of the worst too. Not Indian Wells Amnesia IPA bad, but damn bad.

try some west coast style, super floral and nose blowing, rather than bitter. Pliny, Lagunitas, Sculpin, Racer 5, etc.

We've got a lot of brewers up here that try to be "different", and as a result, we have a ton of really crappy beers to go with the good ones. When I go to the taprooms, I usually sample IPAs that I have not tried before. I can't tell you what the worst ones I've tried are, but geez they sucked.

The taproom nearest to where I live is called Craft Pour House. The owner wants to feature small breweries that nobody knows about, in order to help some of those breweries get some publicity. I keep telling him that he has to have a least one or two certifiably great IPAs on tap to attract people in to try the no-names. I told him I'm willing to try the no-name, but I need a great IPA to fall back on in the event I need something to wash the taste out of my mouth if the no-name is no-good. He doesn't agree with me, so I don't go there unless there is something on tap that I'm really interested in.

I'm an IPA rookie and I've found that I like certain styles of IPAs more than others, they're definitely not all alike. A recent trip to 504 netted me a collection of samples such as Grace and Grit, Ghost, Jucifer, Envie, and Ruination. I really liked the first three on the list, but not so much the latter two. Hated Ruination so much that I had to follow it with a Miller High Life to get the taste out of my mouth.
To each his own, though.
