Quaker Oats cooked up a new image for an old, offensive brand Tuesday. PepsiCo, Inc. the parent company for Quaker Oats, announced it's rebranding Aunt Jemima, the popular pancake and syrup brand, retiring the racist stereotype used for the product's image.

PepsiCo will replace Aunt Jemima with the Pearl Milling Company in June — one full year after the company first announced plans to do away with the Aunt Jemima brand.

Bonus. PepsiCo got to fire all the black women that had jobs portraying the character. Way to go Social Justice Warriors!

Since it’s no different to buy a different brand, that’s what I will do going forward

I honestly think this is a situation where “going woke” might actually mean going broke. Most people, either liberal or conservative, don’t go through with boycotts because they can’t actually give up the product

Conservatives with nfl, liberals with chik fil a, etc etc. But here? It’s easy as hell to grab another syrup brand and you miss nothing

I think a lot of people will stop buying it without even noticing. The only thing that stood them apart from other syrups was their branding and history.

This is like Coke renaming to Liquid Sugar Drinking company. Do these people know that the name itself is part of the brand appeal?

I prefer Steen's, but it's your life to ruin as you see fit.

ETA , this is all in good fun.

Pearl Milling Company...Sounds like a flour or a cornmeal. or maybe grits.

By whatever name it's a crappy syrup. For that type of syrup I prefer Log Cabin. Of course Steen's is the gold standard at my house.

Pearl S. Buck wrote the Good Earth. The Good Earth was about family life in a Chinese village in the early 12th century. Many 12th Century customs and beliefs are problematic based on today's social mores. This makes the name Pearl potentially offensive. I am therefore calling for the removal of Pearl from the company's new name.
