Was very much looking forward to it since this board has hyped it for many years. Very over-rated. The wait for our food was close to 2 hours. I got the baked drum which was decent but nothing I would go back for.
I hope it was just an off day for them but I won't be back.

I haven't been in a few years, but I've never had a bad experience there, and most dishes I'd order again.

Maybe the delay is related to staffing issues.

I love Peche and have been several times over the past few months and everything has been on point.

Sometimes places have off days or don't meet expectations, it happens.

There's probably a labor shortage and you presumably went at a time where everyone is going to show up at the exact same time due to the graduation. I wouldn't write it off considering the circumstances

Yes, it's absolutely the customer's fault

It's really not

Probably because a lot of families had the same idea as you.

I realize you have already made up your mind that you won't be back, but this was a mistake.

If you do go back, stick to the raw bar, snacks and small plates and share like a family style meal.

I don't think I've ever ordered an actual entree at Peche.

I went like a month or so ago and it was absolutely fantastic. Could have been an off day, but you should give it another chance.

I don't know why this is an excuse for the restaurant. Sure the OP's post and "review" sucks but I'd be pretty annoyed if it took 2 hours to serve us food.

Assuming OP isn't exaggerating which he almost certainly is.

So sorry you had a bad experience. Did the staff say anything at all about why your food took so long? Did you have a reservation?

All of my experiences there have been good. The fish preparations we've had have all been good. Did y'all have any other dishes?

Your report is not the norm, but I certainly understand your disappointment.

Who said it was an excuse for the restaurant? Its just providing context.

I wouldn't bitch about long waits if I tried to go to Chimes at lunch for an LSU home game.

It's akin to going out to eat on Valentines Day and being shocked there are long wait times and everywhere is crowded and service isn't up to par.

Give them another shot.
The place is always great when I go.
Give it a few months and try a bunch of small stuff.

Restaurants were at full capacity this weekend in New Orleans for the first time in awhile. But none have the manpower

We went to Gianna and it was a full house. 15 minutes to get acknowledged by our server, another 15 to get drinks. Everywhere is short handed. I like the long, spaced out meal so it’s no biggie to me

Their beef tartare is the best I’ve had anywhere. So good. All of their raw dishes are always executed perfectly. And randomly, the chicken skewers with white BBQ are awesome.

Not that this excuses if your food was bad, but I don’t think I’d get baked drum at Peche. I don’t order drum anyway, but would for sure have gotten all of the items they’re known for.. like the crudos.

There is a great recipe for this in Donald Link's Down South cookbook.

I like you a lot Zombie; but your takes on service employees really make me shake my head sometimes. Nobody said it’s the customer’s fault that places are understaffed, but to say it’s not an excuse when it most certainly IS an excuse is just wrong.

They’re not magical unicorns. They can’t use sorcery to create staff members they don’t have. Everywhere is depleted of employees. They can continue to operate the best they can to try and turn a profit.. or they can shut down forever. It’s best to have empathy for others and lower your expectations in times like these.

The idea that there can be no excuses when in fact there are very real excuses at play is unfair and entitled.

Weren’t you upset that Yama wasn’t accepting takeout orders on a busy night a while back? Which is it, then? Do we want restaurants to be transparent and not seat patrons they don’t have staff for/not take to-go orders when they’re too busy? Or do we want them to try their hardest to do it all and maybe service is slower because of it?

Same I've eaten there several times, and the only thing I've gotten that I didn't like was the Shrimp Roll, it wasn't necessarily bad, but the mustard was overpowering for me.

ETA: as LL posted above, their crudos are awesome. I don't typically get entrees there either, but I did get a fish collar special there once that was fantastic.

Peche has been one of, if not the most, consistent restaurants in the city since it opened

Happiness = Reality-Expectations

I'm sure your experience was a combo of this, staffing issues and being slammed due to graduation surge.

I have dined at Peche at least 15 times over the years and have never had a bad experience.

Maybe give them another chance.
