Anyone ever been and what is good to get foodwise? Going for lunch in a few weeks for my birthday on a Saturday.

TIA

Fish Amandine or the Pompano are my two favorite at Antoines's

I prefer Arnaud's though, especially their deserts

Some places get by on nostalgia. Antoine's is one of those. Definitely not bad but certainly not worth the price. Try it w/ reasonable expectations.

I went for a work function and had a choice of 3 entrees. I chose the filet with crabmeat and bernaise. It was one of the best steaks I have ever had at a restaurant.

I could eat 10,000 souffle potatoes that they serve.

Antoine’s is about the experience and setting. The food is nothing special.

Tell them you’ll want the baked Alaska for dessert when you’re initially ordering.

I like Antoines, and often when I’m in Nola,I’ll go. It’s very unique

However...On a scale of 1-10, it’s a 6ish

Been there many times. The reason I don't go there more often is because I like Galatoire's better. All of the New Orleans style French Creole classics are good.

I think its overrated. Head to Arnauds or Galatoires. Better service and food.

Agreed. I have been twice recently and thought it was just average for the price. The above are much better if you are looking for old guard creole FQ restaurants.

It's about the experience, more so than the food. The food is good enough to be sure. But it's more about being treated well by the waitstaff, and not being rushed. It's about having a 4 drink dinner with a baked alaska ending.

you can acknowledge that there are two dozen better restaurants in new orleans while still having an amazing dining experience at antoine's

I went for the first time in years with friends a few weeks ago. Food and service was very below average. We stopped ordering cocktails and switched to wine because they couldn’t get any drinks right. Biggest disappointment was that Baked Alaskan was strawberry flavored.

Hopefully it was staffing issues due to Covid

Before N.O. dropped down the hellhole it has become, with another couple, once a year we would all get dressed in formal wear, get rooms at the Royal Sonesta, and have a grand dinner at Antoine's. We looked forward to it every year.

Have not been in a long time.

Antoine's is horrible.
Galatoire's and Arnaud's are 1000x better.

Maybe a little harsh, but you'll still have a great time for a birthday party, and all three of these places make you feel like a bigshot. I prefer Galatoire's by far, but throw in Commander's Palace and none of them are a bad choice. We've always wanted to try Tujague's and haven't made it. It's hard to pass on the others when you know how good they are.
