Because they play in a weak conference. Last 2 times LSU played OU in a NCS or semi-final, they got their butts kicked by LSU.

I have to say I’ve wanted LR from jump, but if participation trophies are sufficient for him, and a very swift arse kicking outta the playoffs, I change my mind.

This makes you wonder about way out of left field, like, Drew Brees or Peyton Manning. Has to be huge offensive genius type name. Brady and Sean Payton have already been mentioned. Lincoln Riley as well. If the “not even being talked about” is true at all.

It's pretty simple. As the others have said, he's tired of getting his arse kicked by the SEC in the playoffs.

Well that’s a silly reason to play in the SEC every weekend.

He has the talent at OU. If he can’t win there why would it be different at LSU? Y’all keep acting like our recruits are so much better. The difference between the 5th and 8th ranked class is meaningless.

They get their arse kicked because they play no defense. Riley should be able to change that if he is a good coach. They have the athletes to play defense.

I don't think Riley would leave OU to come to LSU but one thing to consider, OU seems to have hit their stride with Caleb Williams at QB. If they are in the playoff hunt late, I don't see the hire working out. Would Woodward delay the hire another week to see if OU would win/lose the Big 12 CG? Seems risky.

This is pretty much the only place talking about Lincoln Riley. The media and most close to the circle feel he's completely off limits - I mean, he has dogs named Boomer and Sooner. Fwiw, I don't think he's off limits. The window for OU to win a natty is closing as their entry into the SEC nears (i.e. his job is going to get harder and harder).

ETA: I hope he brings his brother, too.

Exactly! And Les before him.

We keep saying it’s a premier job but why do we keep ending up with morons?

We aren’t plucking a young talent from a perennial playoff contender. There is no precedent for that. This is the Jack del Rio of 2021, him and Gruden were always at the top of every lsu fans wishlist every time we talked about a coaching change.

You may think OU is always going to get their arse kicked by the SEC but I guarantee you that Lincoln doesn’t think that. No head coach does.

That's what these people aren't understanding, they think OU joining the SEC is actually going to HURT their recruiting

They already recruit nationally and are consistently ranked very highly, and that's WITHOUT having the prestige of playing in the SEC to sell to recruits. The only reason an OU loses out on the top guys that they do (they still get plenty), is because that recruit wants to play in the best conference.

Any coach worth his salt has to be sitting at OU thinking they can kill it in the SEC, since that's been the only knock on recruiting elite defensive players to this point. They already get top classes at OU, now add that SEC prestige to the mix

No, he doesn't. Not like a top tier SEC school. There is a reason why he gets his arse kicked. The defensive talent is not there in Texas and Oklahoma.

Yeah... They are... The championships prove it. LSU has won three championships with its top players pretty much all being from Louisiana, since OU has won their last over twenty years ago.

Most of the top defensive talent is in the southeast, and there is a fence around it. OU is outside of that fence.

You are drinking the OU media kool-aid. They go into the cotton bowl, and eek out a win against an average Texas team, and suddenly everybody thinks OU is some indomitable force.

OU would smoke every team not named Alabama or UGA in the SEC

They ran into a buzzsaw in LSU in 2019 who wasn’t going to lose to anyone. That doesn’t really count

the geographical recruiting base is just not inline with todays needs like it was in their hayday. He has to pull 70% from texas and surrounding states, with the other 30% nationally.

Y’all are making far too much of “the vaunted move to the SEC” for Oklahoma

Texas A&M has finished 9 seasons in the SEC, their final rankings are

#4
#5
#16
#18
Unranked other 5 seasons

Texas A&M finishes in previous 9 seasons in Big 12

#19
All other 8 seasons unranked

Goes 100% in the opposite direction of the narrative this thread is trying to take

And they can do that. They’re fully invested into their program. A massive stadium expansion is coming for them as well. They’ll have some of the nicest facilities in the country with a massive budget for assistants. Oklahoma is going to reach even higher peaks

Yep. These coaches don’t have a loser mindset. They think they are one break away from winning it all. I guarantee Lincoln isn’t afraid of the SEC, he thinks he is going to crush it, and he should.

Have you talked to him? Do you know that this is a big deal for him?

Y’all make all these assumptions. You think he’s dying to recruit the backwoods of Louisiana? He probably enjoys the fact he has a National brand and pulls kids from everywhere.

Isn’t Riley’s buyout something like 25M? If that’s the case, I just don’t see it. Lol
