No, since they closed the Regina on Plank, Ive not had any interest

As a white kid being bussed to middle school in the hood (Istrouma Middle), the titles of the movies on the marquee were always a source of amusement for everyone on the bus.

For someone who practically lived at movie theaters in the 80's, I have zero desire to go today. It started with beepers/pagers going off, then they were replaced with phones- why go to a freaking movie if you are going to be talking on a phone the entire time? At least with texting coming along it stops a lot of the chatting during a show. But I think the real problem is the writing itself today- writers are too concerned about making a movie 'politically correct' so that it doesn't offend the Hollywood elite. Notice today how every movie has to have a minority, usually with an important role in the film? Did you know they are now tracking films to determine if they have a sufficient enough minority presence? And you wonder why new movies suck! Superhero movies with lots of special effects including bombs and explosions can only carry a movie so far with a poor, watered down script and bad acting...

TL/DR: We have HBO Max so we don’t go that much anymore. But if movies were worth a crap I would go.

Longer version:
Theaters have some issues going against them.
Pre-COVID - there had become a lack of common decency and rudeness in men (and women) where people argued over their seat selections and threw popcorn at one another. Police officers used to have to stand up front and even stop the movie due to the raucous nature of things. Don’t remember the movie but that was our last pre-COVID one for sure. People talked on their phones IN the movie and the texts and actual FaceTiming and/ or filming. I miss those days.

Post-COVID - everyone is spaced out and the popcorn is stale. The snacks are so high you could eat a steak dinner for what it costs for candy and a pickle. BUT the movies suck now and HBO Max allow you to watch it at home on your couch (the same one we all sat on during quarantine) eating burnt microwave popcorn and water. Texting your friends and looking at social media and TD during movie. Arguing with your family. Pausing it to go to the bathroom or to help your Dad use your shop to change out a hydraulic line on his tractor (or some random bullshite).

If movies were good, I would go even if not just for the 2 hours of peace. But if movie theaters don’t handle up on the pre-COVID anger and shenanigans of the theater goers, nope. Well maybe if the po po is going to be there no it’s a raucous crowd just for the sheer excitement of things.

Probably, but going to be rare. Always prefer the streaming option if available.

If I didn't have a child, I would say no. But he's 3, so in a year or two I will definitely take him because that's a fun experience for a kid.

Most of the best movies aren't released in theaters anymore. But I'll still go, because I like the nostalgia.

We saw A Quiet Place II in theaters about a month after it came out late on a weeknight. It was pretty empty and the seats reclined.

I'd like theaters to make a comeback, but without fail there is always a group of people who can't sit through the movie without whispering to each other.

It's fun taking the kids to the Pixar type of films. That's really the only time I've been to the movies in the past ten years or so is with the kids.

I asked my wife and we tried to decide the last time we've been to the movies without kids. We came up with The Departed (2006)

Probably not, unless we’re taking a grandchild. The last movie we saw in a theater was Grown Ups. The first one.

Oh hell no. I would rather rent a movie and pay some premium access fee for $20 or so to sit in the comfort of my own home and not spend a fortune on food when watching a movie with the kids. Even better I can pause the movie for whatever reason I want and not miss a single minute.

I rented one over the holidays for Xmas Vacation (and one next door for some kid’s movie). I said after that experience that I might not ever go back to one with the general public.

Pretty sure I’m renting one for the Many Saints of Newark.

If Alamo Draft House is open, sure.

Never going to just a popcorn and candy theater again.

Went in August to see Respect. They have remodeled so food and drinks are cafeteria style. And added all rocking recliners. The movies are what is keeping us away
