The world's greatest eater, Joey Chestnut, will not defend his belt at the Nathan's Hot Dog contest this year as a result of a sponsorship deal he inked with a rival company...
quote:

According to the NY Post, Chestnut recently joined forces with Impossible Foods to promote its new vegan alternative to tube steaks ... which created major issues with organizers and the governing body -- Major League Eating.

A rep for MLE told the outlet it tried like hell to reach an agreement that would satisfy both sides ... but ultimately, there was no way to make it work.

“We are devastated to learn that Joey Chestnut has chosen to represent a rival brand that sells plant-based hot dogs rather than competing in the 2024 Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest," MLE said in a statement.

“MLE and Nathan's went to great lengths to accommodate Joey and his management team, agreeing to the appearance fee and allowing Joey to compete in a rival, unbranded hot dog eating contest on Labor Day."

I’m a fan of any article that prints the phrase “tube steak.”

Good job sliding that in there.

The bottom line is this event is unwatchable if Chestnuts isnt in it. Not even worth airing it on TV if hes not there. The other contestants are a joke. Not even in the same league. Hope this gets righted here in the next couple weeks.

This is stupid. No one likes the plant based protein. Impossible meat is a rival to salads, not real meat.

Wrong. People don't like it if the costs are the same or higher than meat. They would choose plant based over meat if it was much cheaper.

That shite could be free and I wouldn't choose it

If it were lower cost and super lean I would like it. As in equivalent protein to chicken breast but much cheaper and tastes OK.

Unfortunately none of those things are true right now.
