Multiple outlets have reported that LSU freshman pitcher Cam Johnson is entering the NCAA Transfer Portal. Per SI.com:
quote:

After being selected late in the 2023 MLB Draft, Johnson elected to bypass his professional journey at the time, choosing to join Jay Johnson and the Tigers in Baton Rouge.

Johnson battled command issues to begin the season and couldn't find his groove in year one with the program. He walked 16 batters and threw four wild pitches in only nine innings of play while putting together 12 earned runs off of only five hits.

He played in just six Southeastern Conference games in one season with the reigning National Champions.

I don’t see how guys that don’t produce still expect more time on the mound

We always seem to be loaded with rocket arms that have no command at all. Good luck to the kid, but his departure will not have any effect on us at all.

Going pro ball might have been the better decision for him out of high school. He would have received more instruction on his mechanics in rookie and low A ball than playing at a place like LSU where you are expected to contribute and win now. Kid has a huge arm if someone can rein it in they have a scary weapon.

What are you talking about? His scouting report said fastball at 98-99 and he never touched 95

Cam Johnson is Baseball Brandon Harris. He has no control of his pitches and can't locate the majority of throws anywhere near the strike zone. Seems to be afraid of playing when the bright lights are turned on as well, a la Harris.......

Huge talent, unfortunately NCAA baseball isn’t where guys like this develop in the short term. It’s about winning. Pro ball is about development and wild pitches and command issues are irrelevant there.

Hard to give transfers a hard time since 100% of LSU’s success in every sport the last few years come from transfers. Not people that chose LSU with their heart.

In a sense he was. Jay primarily has a responsibility to win games and you can't do that with a pitcher who can't get the ball over the plate regardless of how good he might be later
