What is so different now compared to 1990 when it comes to eating?

There was fast food in 1990. McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, Burger King, etc. Junk food existed. It has to be a cultural change, right? What changed?

Technology allows more people to sit and work (and eat).

Technology has made people incredibly lazy. Instead of going to the library, shmucks can just sit on the couch and Google shite. And many kids don’t play outside anymore.. just side inside and game

Fast food is a scapegoat. People have always ate unhealthy. The reason is we are lazy as frick these days mainly due to the advancement of technology. These days you really don’t even have to leave your home to do whatever you want

Simple answer - HFCS

Complex answer - HFCS and other highly processed foods and lack of exercise.

ETA - baby boomer here. The most common option for a Coca Cola was a 6-1/2 ounce bottle full of cane sugar. After one you'd had enough. Now we've graduated to 64 ounce Big Gulps. Is that really a good thing?

Mosquitos.
Massive corporate farming with pesticides have killed many of their natural predators. The increase in mosquito population has cause a lot more people to stay inside cause the bug spray don't work. I'm rocking 50 percent deet and had to come inside cause I was getting attacked... This leads to people not spending as much time outdoors and thus getting fat.

Processed foods supplying a middle and lower class that get a lot of breaks and have access to more than ever.

Lack of willpower essentially.

1. Screen use in all of its forms.

2. Crap food that was more for special occasions or going out for once a week has become every day food.

3. I bet if you could measure it, people are drinking a lot more calories, which is a big factor for immobile people spending half their waking hours in front of a screen.

This is also happening, albeit to a lesser extent, in third world countries with less access to processed food and labor saving technology. In fact, studies have shown that a person today with the same diet and exercise habits of a person 30 years would still be fatter. There are several theories for this. I'm not sure which if any I buy.

1990’s Mississippi(most obese then) would be least obese in 2018.

That’s crazy.

Fast food lines with 10 cars deep. People start jonesing if they can’t get their fast food fix, multiple times every week.
