Anyone in Chalmette plan on leaving? Sitting here going back and forth. Have a two year old and 8 month old. Just trying to get ideas of what areas to go to ride this out and was debating on going east to Alabama just bc the ride with everyone would be shorter

If I had kids I’d consider leaving. No kids makes my decision to stay a lot easier.

In the last 30 years, is Andrew the worst storm for Morgan City?

For 30 years absolutely. It was a low-end 3 here.

Stolen from Stormcast...the last 3 Euro runs trending more east.

Yet, it's actually a bit west of the 12z from yesterday.

There was one that was supposed to be really bad when I was just out of high school that died right before landfall. I know the weather channel suggested everyone at the Holiday Inn to evacuate immediately right before it hit. It ended up a Cat 3 I believe. Circa 2001-2002

Yes. It's really 47 years. There hasn't been any other landfalling Cat2 or higher between Terrebonne where Gustav made landfall and Vermilion Bay since Carmen in 1974.

They started working on my street (Short street , near Carrollton/Claiborn) a year ago. Still under construction

I got a taste of that last night, forgot about the work on the right turn lane to Carrollton, tried Short, settled for Fern. Terrible experience tbh

Having a hurricane on the way is exciting AF. Who doesn’t love a good storm?

The thing that I’ll never understand is how easy we had it in Baton Rouge for Andrew (not saying the whole city, just my neighborhood). 5 hours without power, no trees fell anywhere nearby, I was throwing a football around the backyard by the late afternoon versus Gustav (child’s play compared to what the LC people went through, not to mention New Orleans folks in Katrina) which was a real headache.

I was in Houston for Harvey, suffered a lot of damage from rain but it felt very mild from a wind standpoint compared to Gustav.

All had similar peak winds and gusts but very different experiences when you take the sample size of one.

I am in Meraux and going to ride it out, my kids are older than yours tho. We got everything we need, just bought a new chainsaw for the attic, and the pirogues are tied to the house just in case.

I was a Sophmore during Isaac in 2012, campus was crazy during that. Can't imagine this thing with classes having just started and new kids on campus. BTR gonna be a nightmare.

Went thru both gustav and Harvey

Harvey’s wind damage was done to rock port. It was a tropical storm by the time it hit Houston.

Harvey was just days and days of rain.

That was Hurricane Lili. It went from a 4 to a 2 overnight and right before landfall. Still wasn’t fun though

I think that is the last one to hit Lafayette. For being right in the middle of the state, they have had few close calls with really strong storms the last two decades.
