18z SHIPS intensity guidance for #Ida is nothing short of terrifying & made me feel sick.
1st - SHIPS & LGEM forecasts peak strength right at landfall of somewhere btwn 120 & 127 kts (140 & 146 mph).
2nd - SHIPS shows 73% chc for Ida to strengthen at least 45 kts in 36 hrs!!

It cannot be overstated how dangerous of a storm Hurricane #Ida is. The newly-released 18z SHIPS file has incredibly elevated rapid intensification probabilities, including a 40kt/24hr value that is *22 times* the climatological mean!

New Orleans can’t really take a direct hit since it’s not on the coast right?

I had kids I’d consider leaving. No kids makes my decision to stay a lot easier.
We had a newborn and a Cat 1 was approaching LC years ago. Damn thing blew up to a Cat 3 and at that point the roads were packed. Felt like such a dumbass putting kids in danger like that. If you have kids and are in the path GTFO

From Southwest. I'm sure other airlines are doing the same.
Based on the forecasted weather conditions for New Orleans (MSY), our scheduled service on Sunday-Monday, August 29-30, may be disrupted (flights may be delayed, diverted, and/or cancelled).
Customers holding reservations to/from/through New Orleans (MSY) on the dates listed above may rebook in the original class of service or travel standby (within 14 days of their original date of travel between the original city-pairs and in accordance with our accommodation procedures) without paying any additional charge.

Is mentioning a private metrologist a bingo square? What about meteorological sources? I need clarification or a bingo card

You can get on TD but you don’t have access to a map?

Yes. It's really 47 years. There hasn't been any other landfalling Cat2 or higher between Terrebonne where Gustav made landfall and Vermilion Bay since Carmen in 1974.
I know this is in my dad's head to justify why he isn't leaving because even Andrew barely touched our property. Very immature thinking.

Just heard, large sized Cat 4 at landfall, unless some miracle, will be direct hit on New Orleans, my birthplace. (Unless Indian Curse is real and it’s BSL. ) Per several retired meteorologist. Not Nash Roberts so they could be wrong, unlikely but possible.
Take whatever precautions you deem necessary. Damn COE have better fixed those damn levees.
Good Luck and God Bless
GFY, moron

Assuming it's a Morgan City landfall, what kind of winds can Jennings / Lake Arthur expect? I'm not sure if I should prepare hurricane force winds or a 30 - 40 mph gust here and there.
The latter, if that.
