I’ll leave that gulf shite to you baws down south. My north Louisiana arse is gonna stick to the rivers and the lakes that I’m used to.

Me and my podnahs have been having that very conversation...imagine taking a day off work and heading out for a day of fishing.

Been in some rough stuff and been praying under my breath. Every move you make matters.

I’ve been out there when it blows up half as bad as that video and the pucker is real.

Those dudes have brass balls for sure and they earn every ounce of it.

I know a guy that was fishing the Lumps around this time of year for tuna. There was a front that was approaching LA, but the forecast said it was supposed to stall and not go through until late that evening. Well, it didn’t stall. He said there were about 20 boats out there at the lumps and they looked to the northwest and the sky was black. Started hauling arse back to Grand Isle, and one of the motors kept trimming up out of the water. Bad trim switch. So now they were on one engine. They called a mayday and thankfully a sport fisher came to their aid and towed them in.

Said it was raining like hell and 10 foot seas in no time. That sport fisher saved their asses.

Will never forget going to Bimini in a Boston Whaler.

Glass on the way there. Could see our shadow on the sands.

In the way back it was the toughest I’ve seen. Whipped up quick too.

My forearms got the workout of their life holding on to the center console. Throttle up, throttle down for the last 20 miles.

Happened year before last south of Cameron, multiple boats abandoned/sunk. Buddy had a 23 Kenner behind his 36 cat they had a watch stander on disappearing in the trough. Legit 10-12 in a bayboat, a haynie washed up the following Tuesday.
Water taxi boats here road out Laura at the port all night jogging between north and south of docks.

I've never seen it that bad before although I did see a couple of storms blow in and go from dead calm to 10'-12' seas over a short period while I was working in the GOM years ago. We were on 250' ship and January storm blew up and it got nasty. That storm this week is nightmarish to think about how quickly it got brutally rough. I can't imagine being caught in a small vessel in that.

No sir, not this coonass.

ETA: This video got me thinking. How do gulf shrimpers target shrimp? Do they randomly drop nets and fish or is there as strategy? Every other species hunted or fished seems to to have patterns and transition points to target.

I'm legit curious if this is an accurate assessment. He is doing a really good job at the helm but that radio conversation was something else.

That's the captain you want right there. Just watching the video is scary. Couldn't imagine being out there through that.
