Urgency, yes...complete awareness of all variables.
Critical path forward surmised.
Phone call to mom and dad.
Talking with crew and instructing.

Put it in the corner, dawg...you ain’t gonna hurt the engines.

That’s managing an emergency situation with extreme ability and full capacity.

And not one f-bomb.

I think he's saying give it wide open throttle. He's trying to weathervane into the waves and wind. The boat performs better on these conditions going straight into the seas at a moderate speed.

There is a point in the swells that you can time them and other than a rogue wave like in the vid you just roll with them. Getting rolled from a side wave like he thought would have done them in.
There comes a point when you get concerned about the vessel holding together.

Not nearly as bad as sinking the boat will.

The vessel is a “lift boat” that is generally used to transport workers to oil rigs and platforms. It is owned by Seacor Marine based in Houston

I keep seeing and hearing this phrase, but that is not accurate? huh

The video is from a shrimp boat, not a lift boat.

Me and my podnahs have been having that very conversation...imagine taking a day off work and heading out for a day of fishing.

Been in some rough stuff and been praying under my breath. Every move you make matters.

Me and 2 brothers had the same conversation last night. We have a place in Grand Isle and it’s not at all uncommon for 2 or all 3 of us to start a weekend a couple days early or extend one a couple days into the week.

Dad had us out on the gulf since we were infants. Almost 40 years of trips and we’ve been in some hairy situations. Dad was incredible about observing the weather and a keen sense of knowing when it’s time GTFO before shite got bad. People who’ve never spent much time on the water don’t understand how incredibly quick conditions can deteriorate out there.

I can think of many times while wearing the fish out dad stopping us and hauling arse before a bad storm got on us. I remember being extremely pissed many times until I was 13 or 14 about him having us stop fishing in the middle of an incredible bite. That’s when I started to understand how bad things could get.

Even as good as he was about not dicking around with bad weather there were still a few times we had to ride it out in some of summer squalls that literally just pop up. Dad passed away almost 7 years ago. He taught my brothers and I that if fishing out in the gulf you better know what you’re doing and he always stressed to us to never go with anyone we thought that didn’t have much sense or experience

That's a whole ball of nope right there.

Aside from the obvious threats at water level, I'd be nervous about the boat getting struck by lightning and making you dead in the water.

Anyone been on a boat that's gotten struck? I assume that fries all the electronics?

I agree and I guess I posted this in the wrong thread, but i keep seeing that phrase in reference to the lift boat that capsized and it does not seem accurate to me, as I did not think a lift boat was used to bring crew and supplies to rigs and platforms, was just seeing if some guys on this board could confirm

Nah. From Wikipedia:

quote:

A liftboat is a self-propelled, self-elevating vessel used in support of various offshore mineral exploration and production or offshore construction activities. A liftboat has a relatively large open deck to accommodate equipment and supplies, and the capability of raising its hull clear of the water on its own legs so as to provide a stable platform from which maintenance and construction work may be conducted.

Shrimp boat by the name of Rambling Cajun

Pretty boat and appears to be fairly new.
Maybe 100ft?
