re: Brandon Harris offered job as LA Rams assistant QB coach

All you have to do is watch Tony Romo announcing a football game to understand how difficult it is to play quarterback at the highest level. Romo was really good, but not great and he knows exactly what the defense is doing before the ball is even snapped. So no matter how much you know, if you are not able to process that information super fast, you will struggle at quarterback.

More like harris is a young bright mind that can learn from stafford in his final years and then be of an asset for whomever the new young qb the rams will bring in one day to replace matt when he's done

Maybe he is better at teaching someone else how to play QB rather than playing it himself
Most coaches are better at teaching than playing.

Les Miles had such a talent for making his QBs regress over time. JJ and Harris both played reasonably well as freshman, both played fairly well as sophomores and both shite the bed as juniors and seniors.
Makes you wonder what kind of stuff was being put on their plate as upperclassmen that wasn't as young bucks.
I think part of it is that these freshman were just thrown in the game where it was just all reaction. When they had to get into the playbook, things fell apart. Always heard Harris knew the playbook back and forth, but when things broke down, it got him in trouble.
He also had a cannon and no touch which I think was a problem with a bunch of young guys.

It’s better for LSU if Brandon is not at Texas in regards to recruiting.

Maybe he will be really good and come back as LSU coach someday, it could happen.

I meant to say head coach

A lot of times, especially with the QB position, the guys who held clipboards tend to be better coaches. They continuously absorbed information, and were with coaches contemplating what in-game decisions to make as opposed to calling the play given to them and executing.
Doug Pederson. Bill Walsh. Gary Kubiak. Jon Gruden. Sean Payton.
Someone like Brett Favre probably wouldn’t make a very good coach. But his backup figured out how to make Carson Wentz and Nick Foles look like pro-bowl studs and win a Super Bowl.

NFL HC in 5 years.. or has the McVay rub gone away?

He must be a great QB coach. He was an awful 4* QB. Awful. Granted Les Miles and his offensive philosophy had something to do with his lack of development, but he was just as bad at North Carolina too.
So anyway, I am assuming this means Brandon Harris is going to be schooling Matt Stafford on how to play the QB position?
This simply does not compute.

He went to North Carolina under larry fedora and even he couldn't make harris a competent on field quarterback
Lee
Jefferson
Randle
Reggie
Rivers
Jennings
Harris
McMillan
Were just ALL bad just because there were, you have no idea about football. Dan Mullen is a prime example of what a coach can do for any QB. Miles made it his mission to not have a proper QB coach after Fisher left.

I don't understand the hate for Harris. I remember him being a well spoken boy and class act when he was at LSU.

Yeah its like these guys started their careers doing the things that made them successful to that point and then CLM would coach the things they did well out of them and try to mold them into his version of a QB and it was a disaster.

McMillan
McMillan transferred to the level of football he should have been playing all along and I think he had a successful 2 year stint at Tulane.
He led them to their first back to back bowl seasons in decades.
I watched a decent amount of Tulane games and his main issue was how he handled pressure. If he got hit a few times, all his throws were fade away throws on his back foot and he'd sail them all. If Tulane could run decently and he could pick his spots, McMillan was a good QB.

Isn't this the same guy who constantly makes fun of LSU when they're struggling? If it's him I'm thinking of frick that guy. I don't care where his career went or goes. He always came across as a little baby when a lot of his problems were mostly his own responsibility with his time here. Maybe not all but he clearly didn't have it.
If I'm thinking of the wrong guy then disregard. Grats to him moving up otherwise. Putting in work.

Vince Lombardi never played in the NFL. Don't knock Harris just because he never lived up to some of your wildly over the top expectations of him when he was 20 years old

That was the cause of my disbelief in the OP. That’s a hell of a quick jump.
