Yep I was on campus then. It was wild to just walk by and see Duke standing there on the bench talking.
Was there when Duke spoke, also the SDS, Panthers,
young republicans, among others.
Remember it was polarized, there were the cowboy/Ag department guys, and I remember female speaking who represented the then women's movement. She is now an attorney.
Not related to the alley, but I remember when LSU dorms went coed, some religious protestors in front of the dorms with signs stating we would burn in hell.

Those people used to bring their whole families down to pass out hellfire comic books while the men yelled more brimstone bullshite at people walking by. I was there from 03-08. It was a pentecostal group from Southern Mississippi that would come down every day. I still have a Reveille around somewhere with info about them.

I remember Sister Cindy’s picture she painted after a vision of the Earth going to hell in a hand basket.

I would pretend I was deputy Dewey from scary movie and shout nonsensical shite as I went by.

Anybody Remember Free Speech...?

They don't have Free Speech Alley anymore? Where do students get their pocket bibles from now?

When the guys from girlspoop.com dressed up as satan and Jesus and had a boxing match... It was epic.
I'd kill to find their old videos. Hitting a gigantic bag of popcorn at ghetto mart in a shitty car.
Seeing how ugly the girl had to be before even peanut butter wouldn't make the dog kiss her.
Drinking a fifth of skol vodka and then filming stool porn. Not scat. A guy dry humping the shite out of a stool

Supposedly when my old man was in school, one of those "youre all going to hell" guys got his block knocked off by a big ol corn fed boy from nort louisiana

So what’s there now?? I was there from 2008-2013. I remember the crazy folks yelling at people they were going to hell for being sinners. Usually it was a husband and his wife and kids would just be standing around awkwardly holding signs. And there was this older white guy with a desk set up that would invite people to talk about Jesus. You had the occasional shouting matches between people. I would go eat my lunch out there and enjoy the shite show.

I remember a guy in the early 90’s who used to shake his Bible at the squirrels and scream, “Repent! Repent you fornicating squirrels!”
He was a hoot.
He was a hoot.

Try going there and speaking out against BLM or the removal of statues and renaming of buildings and streets and tell me if it exists anymore.

We must have been there around the same time. Late 80's, early 90's
That dude was there during my time early to mid 80s

They had two chicks dressed in patriotic bikinis with "bush" and "gore" painted on them fake wrestling in one of the fountains in the quad when I was there. Probably the most memorable if not confusing display of "free speech" during my time at LSU. The only thing I remember about free speech alley other than the religious screamers was that I learned to avoid it like the plague to not get roped into some pointless sales pitch about some cause I didn't give a shite about.

We were leaving Murphy's one night and the screaming preacher guy was out front carrying on. I yelled something at him as we drove by to leave and he threw his Bible at me through my open driver's window. It bounced off the dash and I laughed as I drove off. One of my buddies, big time Catholic from NOLA, made me turn around and take it back. I was going to keep it but he was having none of that. It was a pretty nice leather bound book and not the ones they handed out.

I remember a few short years ago how someone threated to burn the flag on campus...but that didn't go as planned... now wondering if things would go different?
I was there for that outrage. In hindsight I'm embarrassed I was in that mob, didn't understand freedom of expression then lol.
