Damn you must be at the cleaning table for a hot minute. I’m no expert but I can filet a trout or red using electric in under a minute or two tops.

filetzall

Has anyone used this yet? It attaches to any single hand reciprocating saw.

There is a trout fishing place up in Missouri. There is a hatchery at the property and it’s all put and take fishing.

There are guys that clean the fish, most between 2-4lbs, and they can have a fish cleaned in under a minute. It’s amazing.

They’re using 4” rapala filet knives.

If there is a better electric fillet knife than the Bubba Blade version.... i haven’t met it

Had a gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket and picked up the corded Bubba Blade earlier...
friends have said they are the best ones they've ever used and they last...
they use them A LOT...

we'll see...

I have the Bubba Cordless and its awesome. I dont like the blade that come with it, so I use old mister twister or my American Angler blades. The Bubba is much better than my American Angler.

With that being said, I also like to filet fish with my dexter russel or Kast King filet knife. The key is having them really sharp. For specks, I am almost as fast with the straight knife as I am with electric. Takes practice though. Again, the knife needs to be super sharp!

When I go fishing and plan to keep fish i mix equal parts water and ice in the ice chest. Catch a fish, drop in the ice chest, it swims down and dies in under 2 minutes, gets really cold, meat is firmer, and they are normally straight. Makes them much easier to fillet.

Thank you CHEDBALLZ. I am gonna start doing this. I always heard that this approach is better for specs too. Makes the meat stay fresher and taste better.

I use a Rapala electric & a Walmarks $15 electric. Still keep a Rapala fixed blade cause that's what I grew up with way before electric knifes were a thing. The Rapala electric is the most ergonomic between the two powered knives.

Regardless if you ice slurry or throw 'em on a sack of ice, crappie especially are still coming out of the cooler covered in slime

I can do a speck in roughly 15 secs, once you figure it out it's like riding a bike. Let the knife do the work, similar to using a skill saw.

The Mrs. got me an electric Bubba Blade for Father's Day. That thing does wonders man. The flex blade for specks, the stiff blade for reds. It's pretty awesome.

For those of you keeping score at home, went with the Rapala Lithium Ion rechargeable. Mainly, so I could take it when we canoe camp.

I used it yesterday for the first time and dang, I can't believe I haven't used an electric before. I filleted 12 bass in about 20 minutes from start to finish and didn't miss a bunch of meat. Game changer. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Piggybacking on this. Wife is asking me for Christmas ideas and I am thinking of getting a Bubba Blade. 95% of the time I am cleaning fish where there is electrical outlets, but occasionally I'll take the yak out and not have a powered cleaning station.

How does the cordless version hold up to the corded version?

I am usually catching specks, with the occasional red/sheepie/drum. Don't keep bull reds. Mostly fish Big Lake so 50ish fish will probably be the max I ever have to clean.

I only use manual knives. I cant control the electric and butcher filets. I clean specks in the same time my electric friends do.

Plain old wood handled rapala. Keep it sharp with both a stone and the red sharpener they come with. When I nick it up I get a new one. $15 or so.

May change to a Dexter but cannot find one with a sheath.

It's badass.

Have you ever run out of battery?

no. I use it mostly at the camp in Pigeon but have used it at the coast for reds without an issue. It comes with 2 batteries, I've never got into the second on a single cleaning.

I like the old school rapala filet knife with a wood handle. Keep a stone handy to sharpen between feesh.

I know this doesn't help, but the corded one is badass. I don't own the cordless one but have heard good things.

For bass a regular fillet knife will get them. I use a Dexter or a Victorinox. I clean my bass and trout the same way.
