re: Ventus Driver Shafts

Posted by Bigryno7 on 11/27/25 at 12:28 am to
I would test them if you can. Blue can get a bit spinny for me. My driver SS is 115-118 and I prefer black. I also have a shorter shaft @44” that is a Blue TR 6x I play. It’s tipped 1” to make it more stiff.

Black 6x and 7x are different in weight and handle stiffness.

Try putting the ball a little more forward that you usually do. Helps you commit to covering it. Narrowing the stance will also help with strike and prevents the chunk

re: Pebble/Spyglass

Posted by Bigryno7 on 11/8/25 at 10:49 pm to
I loved them both. The walk at pebble is about as good as it gets. Just enjoying the day out there is incredible. Spyglass is a tougher golf test, and I enjoyed it for that reason. I really enjoyed Spanish as well.
I have the 17, 19 and 21 versions of the OG Apex UW. I find the 19° the best. You can choke up and hit it shorter or fly it 260 in the air. The 17° is a rocket but doesn’t get as much height. The 19° is typically my second club in the bag and my fairway finder. Driver swing is around 117-118 for what it’s worth.
I’m a buy once cry once person. If there is something I want I will do my research and plan on keeping it for a while. I hate cheap shite
I’d agree on the GT2. Much better than previous 2 versions IMO. I’ve hit some insanely long drives this year with it. Forgiveness is pretty good as well

I unfortunately do not have any. I’ve gotten close on a Par 4 at Carter hitting the flag and another time at Santa Maria the same year but banged out.

I flew one into the edge of the cup last year from 155 out with a 9 iron and it shot off the green. I made bogey.

Wondering if I’ll ever get one. My ball doesn’t really move when it hits the green. High swing/high ball flight doesn’t give me a lot of chances
Carmel is a cool city to drop in. By 9pm though everything is pretty dead. We had a good time at Sadie’s which is a local dive bar. Cash only.

My only advice honestly is to care less how you play. Enjoy the walk and the views. It is spectacular. Do not ride in a cart. Splurge for the caddie and enjoy every minute of that walk. The views really are amazing.

re: 190 yards. What you hitting?

Back pin-7 iron
Front or middle-6 iron

Right in the middle of clubs for me

I have a few different lob wedges I sometimes rotate if conditions change but I always use a 54° F 14 Vokey. My favorite lob wedge is a V grind Vokey from wedge works. It can do everything in anything but the tightest conditions and is a gamer from the fairway.

When the put lower bounce wedges in play my fairway 40-80 shot game is not as sharp.

re: Yall ever think about quitting?

Posted by Bigryno7 on 8/19/25 at 7:09 pm to
Take two weeks off then quit! I often think about that line when I had a bad round. Lol.

In all seriousness, I’ve gotten back into golf after about a 12 year hiatus and it’s been a lot of fun. Got a registered handicap that started as a 12 and have it all the way down to 5. It’s fun to buy new clubs, work on my game, socialize with friends and hit absolute bombs. At the end of the day, I try not to take it too seriously. I complain in my head that I didn’t break 80 or something but once I’m home and I’ve thought about it, I may have shot a score that 4 years ago would have been a great day. It’s been a fun ride and I don’t think I’ll be giving up the game anytime soon.

Take a break and come back to it. May do you some good.

re: Half speed driving drill

Posted by Bigryno7 on 8/13/25 at 10:33 pm to
Try swinging with a narrow stance, arms only. Then slowly start widening and working in the lower body rotation. This always helps with my sequencing.
When my driver is bad, it’s always sequencing or set up. If I swing arms only, I can hit a straight ball 9/10 times with ease.
One thing that helped me was to figure out which hand was doing too much work and eliminate it. For me it was the right hand.

I switched to Left Hand Low this season and my speed control has never been better.

Take the power out of the dominate hand and it will help with jerkiness in the stroke
This is where I disagree. I smoke my wings to 190-200 always. At 165 they are chewy IMO.

To each his own I guess

re: Smoking Chicken Wings- Need advice

Posted by Bigryno7 on 6/30/25 at 6:09 pm to
What type of smoker?

I always find hot and fast makes chickens wings tastes the best. I do mine in the Kamado with deflectors as hot as I can get it. Other option I do is Weber kettle at about 500° indirect. Gets the Smokey charcoal flavor and crispiness.

I always make sure I pat my wings dry, then season with desired seasoning and toss in a little olive or avocado oil. Add corn starch for extra crispiness

re: Trout rod recommendations

Cajun Rods Atled in 7’3”. MH. If you wanted a do it all rod. That would be a good popping cork, live bait, 1/4 oz or greater type rod. For smaller baits or lighter tackle I like a 6’10-7’ rod in Medium action for throwing plain jig heads with plastic minnow. Softer tip and enough backbone. Cajun rods makes a coastal or Savannah series that also works great.

I am also very partial to Kistler rods. For reds and specks I like their KLX series. The KLX 7’ rod in MH is the best rod I’ve found to fish a spoon with.

re: Weber Summit Kamado grill

Yes the divide and conquer system of the Kamado Joe is really handy when grilling. Setting up an indirect and direct station is nice
He was toast before that IMO. Him trying to hit a 7iron 190 on a severe uphill lie ended up being a costly decision as well. Ball fell short in the rough and he went spiraling.

The Weber Kettle can do just about anything, however it is not as efficient and over time you will spend more on charcoal.

However, IMO the efficiency of the ceramic grills are why I think the food tastes better off the Weber Smokey Mountain or kettle. You get more airflow, which in turn puts out a better bark. I typically run my Big Joe 3 hot for that reason.

I have them all, BJ3, Joe Jr, Smokey Mountain, 2 Kettles, and they all put out good food. Was originally looking at the Weber Kamado but at the time there just wasn’t a lot of info surrounding them.

I think they are all great grills in their own way and the ash management system of the Weber Summit makes it a great choice for an all around grill

re: Mini-Drivers

Posted by Bigryno7 on 6/2/25 at 6:45 pm to
It’s essentially a 2 wood. I bought the GT280 and am loving it. Goes far but I can also hit it well off the deck. However, success off the deck with this club is due to fast swing speed.

The other mini drivers have a much larger footprint and will be hard for most to hit off the deck as well if you are average or below swing speed. Best to use tee only. Just my 2 cents.

re: Getting back spin on chips

#spinloft the Joe Mayo technique works well for spin on the ball. Use a lob wedge and make ball first contact. Look up his technique and try it for yourself. The wet winters here in Nashville made me move away from “using the bounce” as much. It’s an easy way to flub a shot. Ball first contact ensures you won’t chili dip it 3 feet.
When it’s nice out and the course is dry, using the bounce and chipping overall is much easier. However, if I were to choose one technique in all conditions, it would be the Joe Mayo technique.
