Filleted some fish yesterday for the first time in years. The Mrs wanted some fish tacos, usually I'm releasing. I did a crap job, looks like I used a hammer. How can I up my game? I have the standard rapala knife and I tried to keep it sharp, but damn I might have done better with my weedeater.

Purist will only use a regular knife.

I like an electric one.

Trout or bass= dexter russel
Red fish= dexter russel serrated for the body then DR filet or electric to take the skin off the filet.
If you slush you’re fish they will be firmer and easier to filet.

agreed. I use electric for everything but big reds. I use my electric for most slot reds.

Mostly bass.

Think I'll look at the American Angler Electric.

Thanks.

Dexter 9” fillet knife and serrated plus an electric. I bought the rapala lithium cordless and I’m surprisingly pleased.

Would you recommend that over a straight electric?

For you recommending American Angler, do you have the Classic or Pro model? Is there a big difference? Do you use all of the blades?

I have an old worn down from sharpening for years boning knife that has just enough flex in the blade to be used as a filet knife and it works well.

My wife surprised me with a Kastking filet knife last Christmas since I was catching large cats and that thing works well. I just wish she'd have gotten the 6 in. blade and not the 9 in. blade. The longer blade takes some getting use to, but it comes razor sharp and is easy to keep an edge on, plus it comes with a hard plastic sheath that locks the blade in when stored.

With the electric do you go through the ribs or around?
