why are people in South Louisiana so obsessed with bragging about ice chest full of 12 to 14 inch speckle trout that don't even put up any resistance once you hook em??? Its live bait fishing for panfish. It takes zero effort. Catching a limit of specks is not an accomplishment by any means

No says you should care about Speckled Trout, but that obviously doesn't stop you from being triggered about it.

I think Louisiana creel surveys consistently show that less than 3% of the boats returning to port where speckled trout were targeted contain a limit of speckled trout. And my guess is that 80% of those 3% are guides.

Catching a limit is in fact a rare accomplishment.

As for why you should care: speckled trout is the #1 targeted fish in LA coastal waters. I think it means something like $1 billion to the LA economy every year. About half the trips taken for speckled trout are taken by people who travel over 200 miles to pursue them.

Quit being triggered. Now I’m not one to use live bait, but I know a few that target big trout and use live bait exclusively and catch hammers. The population is healthy. You need to be triggered by all the erosion and loss of habitat

Which can also be fun as frick. Trout fishing isn't my favorite, but I do enjoy it. I like switching gears sometimes from fresh to salt water, although my boat isn't exactly built to "chase the birds".

Sorry you can't catch any trout.

Seriously though, sure, sometimes they can be stacked up, but they can also be some finicky bastards that are hard to find sometimes. If you've never caught a decent sized trout and seen that yellow mouth and gills flare above the water, then I guess I see your issue. Redfish are fun, but they're also really stupid and will eat a white dog turd on a hook.

OP you could always blow yourself up in an empty lot if it bothers you that bad. I’ll even sacrifice myself and stand next to you for the good of The Outdoor Board

To me...... they are better eating than a White Perch, and still really fun to catch.
